BLS For Health Care Provider – Memorial Hospi- tal and Health Care Center offers the Basic Life Support (BL S) for Health Care Provider class for licensed and certified health care professionals such as physicians, dentists, nurses, paramedics and EMTs. This American Heart Association course covers CPR for all ages, 2-man CPR, bag-valve mask ventilation, relief of responsive and unresponsive FBAO (choking), and use of the AED. Par- ticipants must successfully complete a written test and skills evaluation to receive a course completion (creden- tial) card. You must bring your CPR Card to class. PAD/A A A/Stroke Combination Screening – To bring more awareness to cardiovascular diseases, Me- morial Hospital and Health Care Center is sponsoring a combination PAD, A A A, and stroke screening on Mon- day, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Memorial Cardio- vascular Services located at 440 Scott Rolen Drive in Jas- per. The cost of the screening is $ 90 and pre-registration is required. A four-hour fast, including not smoking or chewing gum, is required. These screenings allow indi- viduals with certain risk factors the opportunity to as- sess their health status. During the screening, participants have their blood pressure readings taken in the arms and ankles. Bariatric Support Group – Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center is offering a Bariatric Support Group for individuals who have had or who are considering weight loss surgery. Lifeline Medical Alert Assistance Services – Stay- ing safe and independent as you age are goals many of us share. Older adults and individuals with chronic medi- cal conditions risk losing the ability to live safely in their homes due to the increased need of assistance. Memo- rial Hospital and Health Care Center offers Lifeline, a medical alert assistance service for those who wish to live independently in their homes, while maintaining an immediate emergency link to Lifeline Systems Call Cen- ter, where trained personnel can talk to the resident im- mediately and activate the subscriber's emergency re- sponse plan if needed. Lifeline has a one-time installation fee of $50 and costs starting at $ 39 per month after installation. Bluebird Program Set for 14 May, Patoka Riv- er NWR – The Friends of Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor a program about bluebirds on Satur- day, May 14, at 9:00 am Central Time (10 :00 am Eastern Time). Besides the life history of the bluebird, retired school teacher, Jerry Hunefeld, will include information he has learned through 45 years of maintaining a blue- bird trail in southwestern Dubois County. The hour-long program will take place on the Refuge at the Boyds Trail parking lot, just east of Snakey Point marsh. At the conclusion of the presentation, there will be a drawing for some bluebird boxes which were con- structed and donated to this event by the Gibson South- ern High School Natural Resources class. The Boyds Trail parking lot is east of Oakland City and north of SR 64 (watch for the brown Refuge signs on SR 64). Approximately one-quarter mile east of Oak- land City, turn north on CR 1275E. GABC reports strong first quarter performance German American Ban- corp, Inc. (NASDAQ: GABC) reported that its 2016 first quarter earnings represented another period of strong operating perfor- mance. The Company's first quarter net income was $5.1 million, or $ 0.37 per share, which was inclusive of the acquisition and operations of River Valley Bancorp, and its banking subsidiary River Valley Financial Bank, as of March 1, 2016. In connection with the ac- quisition of River Valley, the Company recorded merg- er related expenses dur- ing the quarter of $ 3.9 mil- lion, which, on an after-tax basis, represented approxi- mately $2.5 million, or $ 0.18 per share.
