Our devotion was from Acts 12:3-17 and told about the escape of Pe- ter from prison as he was awaiting his death from Herod. The Angel of God came, helped him past the guards, opened the cell, and he escaped. Many peo- ple were "praying earnest- ly" for Peter. We too can es- cape by praying earnest- ly for ourselves, and those who we love. Our church re- ceived too such escapes this past week. Never doubt the power of prayer and praying earnestly. No Wednesday evening video series beginning at 6 p.m. this week. February 2, is Ground- hog Day. Let's hope we don't have several more weeks of winter. On Sunday, February 11, we will have a regular business meeting follow- ing morning worship for the reading of the church letter to the association. " Remember that God is a spirit, and just because you do not see him does not mean that God does not ex- ist. I believe that Paul was re- ferring to Greek poets of old when he wrote, "For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, "We are his offspring" (Acts 17:28). Also, "For since the cre- ation of the world God's in- visible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature— have been clearly seen, be- ing understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse" (Ro- mans 8:20). Compassion in Helping Others "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them." (Hebrews 6:10, K JV ). In our lives it is easy to get tired and overwhelmed by helping others with their trials, when your own are building up on the "back burner." As Christians, this verse can give us courage and help us remember that even though we have trials and business of our own to handle, by showing love and compassion in helping others, God is pleased with us. He has not forgotten us and is there to help us, be- cause of the love we have shown to them even though that same love is not always returned. God bless you and keep you. God had told Moses to make the bronze serpent, but now the King is destroy- ing it because the people be- gan to worship it. If we are not careful we can worship the wrong thing, even if it was at first God ordained. Only God deserves our wor- ship. Just for fun, google the word Nehushtan. Main Street, Petersburg Phone: 812-809-4544 Sunday services are at 10 a.m. and youth service at 6:15 p.m. In the 24th chapter of Ex- odus, we see Moses telling the Israelites about the cov- enant God wants to make with them. "And all the peo- ple answered with one voice and said, 'All the words which the Lord has said we will do.'" Six verses later we see that 74 of the men (Aar- on included) saw God and had a banquet with Him. ( V 9) Now, just a mere forty days later, 73 of those same men joined with the people in doubting God and gave their gold to make an idol to worship. Claiming that this golden idol which they had just made was the god that had brought them out of Egypt. What is wrong with this picture?
