UPCOMING REUNIONS said he thought there was a clause in the final agree- ment between Winslow and GAB that didn't allow them to sell it for two years. "I could be wrong, but I nearly know in the final version of that contract we couldn't sell it for two years." Brewster said he had re- viewed the next to final ver- sion of the contract and hadn't seen that clause. "I suggest we table it un- til the next meeting so we can look at the final version of the contract and know where we stand," said Sim- mons. The matter was tabled. In other business related to the GAB building, coun- cilmen gave their approval for an exotic animal petting zoo to be set up there during the Winslow Fall Festival. In other matters, coun- cilman Brewster re- quested a key to the Win- slow Fire Department building for Town Hall. "The town doesn't have a key to the fire department," said Brewster. "Sure you do. Dave (Gay- hart) has one in his pock- et," said Fire Chief Jason Bottoms. Brewster said the town needed a key. "I thought there was one. There was one made for that," said Bottoms. Strobel said he took a key to Town Hall. Clerk-Treasurer Bennett said she had a key to the of- fice, but didn't think she had one to the building. She add- ed there were two keys on the ring given to her. Bottoms said he thought the other key was to the out- side door. Brewster then request- ed financial reports on the income and expenditures of the fire department. He said a State Board of Ac- counts auditor recently told the town they should have those reports. Brewster also asked if the fire department got money from insurance companies when they made fire runs. It is typical for fire depart- ments to get a $500 fee from the homeowners insurance when they make a fire run. "We don't get any money," said Lynnette Mathias. Bottoms said they turn in the claim, but don't get paid. He added several residents in Winslow don't have home- owners insurance. Brewster said he would work with the fire depart- ment on their claims to see if they could start getting re- imbursed on their runs. He then renewed his re- quest for financial records from the department. "If you don't put any mon- ey in our accounts, you have no right to get that," said Rick Mathias. "Yes, we do," responded Brewster. "If you want it, come to our meeting if you want to be nosy. We have nothing to hide," said Rick Mathias. "It is my understanding from the fire marshal's of- fice, maybe we have to do a contract with you, but we should be provided with what revenue and expense you having coming in," said Brewster. "We can do what we need to do," said Bottoms. It then turned heated. Rick Mathias said Brewster had called the State Board of Accounts and asked them to look into it. Brewster denied that. Lynnette Mathias then said they ran the fire depart- ment on monies they collect- ed through fundraising. She expounded on that, saying at the end of the year they took $ 900 to create gift baskets for needy families and de- livered them around Christ- mas. She said they give them to families who don't take advantage of the sys- tem and don't ask for help. "The community needs to know that," said Debi Lamb. Lynnette responded, "I'm tired of getting kicked in the head." "No one is trying to kick you in the head. The State Board of Accounts is sug- gesting that a report be sent in." Lynnette then got up and said, "I quit," repeatedly and left the meeting. "This is BS, maybe you should run the thing. That's my input," said Rick Math- ias. "If the town wants to know, we are going to have to draw up a contract. Let's move on," said Strobel. Town Marshal Steve Eng- lish said he was having trou- ble with weed and dog com- plaints. He said he had a barking dog complaint and a weed ordinance complaint he had issued 10 citations to but they were being ignored. English asked if the coun- cil wanted him to contact the town's attorney to continue with the process of getting a court judgment. "I don't know why you wouldn't," said Strobel. The council approved the claims of $27,701.39. The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11 in the Community Center. Community effort makes for 10th Annual Tractor Ride By James Capozella It takes more than a group of antique tractor enthusi- asts to make for the 10th Annual Pike County Tractor Drive set for Saturday, Sep- tember 23. The Pike Coun- ty Tractor Club needs fuel in the form of the Pike Coun- ty Young Farmers, who al- ways handle lunch for the dozens of drivers and pas- sengers on the ride. The ride also takes coor- dination from members and participants from surround- ing counties and communi- ties who put on the ride in conjunction with the Win- slow Community Festival sponsored by the Winslow Lions Club. This 10th anniversary ride includes a Dutch Treat lunch at the Ireland Sports- man's Club after touring through about 19 miles of backroads beginning at the Otwell Elementary School parking lot. Dave Yager and Terry Beadles are handling the opening ceremonies at the start and finishing point around the Otwell Elemen- tary School. This year's ride tours Northeastern Pike County and Northwestern Dubois County backroads and is approximately 19 miles in the morning and 14 miles in the afternoon. For more information on the ride, contact club members Jim Lamey at 812-789 -2688, Da- vid Yager at 812-483-9532, Mike Whaley at 812-582- 0270 or Ross Elmore at 812- 582-2628. Dubois County historical features on the ride include McDonald's stage stop, Sheritt Cemetery and Por- tersville (old County Seat). The Ireland Sportsman's Club will be the lunch stop catered by the Pike County Young Farmers. As in years past, a drive video can be pre-ordered at the time of registration at a cost of $20. The no en- try fee ride/drive takes off at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday, September 23, with registra- tion beginning at 8:30 a.m. All tractor drivers must be licensed. WINSLOW Continued from page 5 Winslow Street Supervisor David Gayhart next to a tree debris pile that has been located near the Winslow Community Center. Much of it has been cleaned up recently and the Winslow Council decided to move the debris pile location to a more remote area behind the demolition derby area.
