She was born on January 21, 1938, in Anderson, S.C., to Francis and Eunice (Rich- ardson) Cason. She was married to Rob- ert Kelley on September 26, 2015, and worked as an apartment manager for Hickory Hills. She is survived by her husband; a son, Casey Mo- reland; three stepsons, To- ny Bryant, David Bryant and Phillip Bryant; a daughter, Cathy Moreland; sisters, Sylvia Campbell and Jerry Newberry; and five grand- children. Funeral services are at 10 :30 a.m. on Wednes- day, August 16, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Pe- tersburg, with Dr. Charles Baxter officiating. LISA ANN COOMER Lisa Ann Coomer, 56, of Petersburg, formerly of Princeton, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at her home. She was born May 12, 1961, in Gibson County, to the late Elmer Coomer and Helen Mae (Greentree) Coomer, one of twelve chil- dren born to this union. She was a CNA, having worked for several health care facil- ities. She is survived by her sons, Scottie Coomer, of Pe- tersburg, and Brian (Becky) Coomer, of Patoka; sev- en grandchildren; and two brothers, John and Ray- mond. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, James, Dickie, Bill, David and Chuck; and three sisters, Carolyn, Mary and Sue. MARTHA JOE HURST JALLOS Martha Joe Hurst Jallos passed away July 31, 2017, after a long illness. Born on January 21, 1938, to Joe and Helen Hurst, of Petersburg. She is survived by her two children, Greg Jallos, of Plantation, Fla., and Julie (Bill) Randolph, of Los Ga- tos, Calif.; granddaughter, Jennifer Jallos; and grand- sons, Alex and Jack Ran- dolph. She graduated from Pe- tersburg High School in 1956. She married, then moved to Florida and raised a family. Her love of travel took her around the world. When it came time to retire from her travel agency, she moved back to her home- town of Petersburg. In ad- dition to traveling, she had many passions in her life, including quilting, sewing, crocheting, playing cards, gardening, cooking and most of all, she loved her animals. A special note of gratitude and appreciation to Barbara and Chuck Baumgart, who for the past few years provid- ed "mother" with care and support. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. ROY CLINTON HOLLIS Roy Clinton Hollis, 92, of Odon, passed away peace- fully, surrounded by his lov- ing family in his home, on Thursday, August 10, 2017. He was born on May 30, 1925, in Otwell, to Or- ville Owen and Maude (Ab- bott) Hollis and was raised in the Burr Oak Commu- nity. He eloped and mar- ried his sweetheart, Doro- thy J. (Chamberlain) Hol- lis, on June 11, 1948, in Pig- gott, Ark. He was a US Army W WII veteran, serving his coun- try from 1944-1946. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacif- ic Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Med- al, Philippine Liberation Rib- bon and Army Occupation Medal ( Japan). He is entered into the W WII Memorial Registry of Remembranc- es in Washington, D.C., for participating in W WII and helping our nation win the greatest military victory in history. He was a member of the Odon Christian Church, VFW Post # 9627 and Odon American Legion Post #293. He was a licensed ham radio operator and lifelong farm- er until he retired in 1996. He loved gardening, was an avid computer enthusiast and kept in touch with fami- ly and friends worldwide via social media and ham radio. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul D. Hollis; and son-in- law, Carl W. Stites. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hollis, of Odon; one son, Gary Kent Hollis, of El- nora; two daughters, Linda Kaye Stites and Vicki Lynn (Robert Leon) Wise, both of Odon; eleven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchil- dren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Meng Family Fu- neral Home, in Odon, with Brother Richard Smith offi- ciating. He was laid to rest in Elnora Fairview Cemetery, following military grave- side rites by the Army Hon- or Guard and the Odon VFW Post # 9627. SAR AH ANN REESE Sarah Ann Reese, 82, of Newburgh, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Au- gust 12, 2017. She was born February 8, 1935, in Winslow, to Charles and Genevie Hurst. She was a graduate of Winslow High School and Western Illi- nois University, where she earned Academic Honors. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of First Chris- tian Church. Her faith in God sustained her through- out her life. A fter her hus- band, Jerry's, retirement, they enjoyed traveling, golf and most of all, spend- ing time with children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her devoted hus- band of 56 years, Jerry; and her father and mother, Charles and Genevie Hurst. She is survived by her sons, Rick (Lori), of Rush- ville, Ill., and Randy (Kris), of Newburgh; grandchil- dren, Ryan, Noah and Rylee; sister, Eleanor (Ken) Bot- torff; and nephews, Mike (Ashley) Bottorff and Mark Bottorff. LOIS LAVON DEMOT TE Lois Lavon DeMotte, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2017. She was born June 14, 1943, in Petersburg, to Rich- ard J. and Olive Ilene Stub- blefield Masters, who pre- ceded her in death. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She grew up in Pe- tersburg and came to Indi- anapolis in her youth. She was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Method- ist Church. She loved bowl- ing, sewing, cross stitch and canning. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert L. DeMotte; sisters, Irene Cardinal, Melba Da- vis, Norma Lee Masters, Mary Masters and Linda Richardson; and brothers, Charles Masters, Richard J. Masters, Jr. and Raymond Masters. Pancake, 80, of Velpen, passed away at 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born February 20, 1937, in Huntingburg, to Al- va and Margaret (Eilert) Pancake, and was united in marriage to Mary E. Wes- sel on May 17, 1969, in Jef- fersonville. Louis worked as a welder and machinist, enjoyed tin- kering on equipment in his backyard, and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Margaret Pancake; his step- mother, Ada Belle Pancake; two daughters, Anita Deck- er and Lisa Ross; two broth- ers, Lloyd Pancake and Ken- neth Pancake; and his step- sister, Joyce Ann Allgood. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Pancake, of Velpen; two sons, Doug ( Joline) Pan- cake, of Velpen, and John (Rose) Pancake, of Paoli; three siblings, Marvin Pan- cake, of Velpen, Roger Pan- cake, of Jasper, and Mil- dred Neukam, of Dubois; by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WILMA HUDSON Wilma Hudson, 94, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2017. She was born on May 20, 1923, in Burr Oak, Ind., the sixth of eight children born to William and Matil- da Buchta. She married Charles Hudson in Febru- ary of 1941. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hudson; a daughter, Betty Hudson; and a grandson, Brad Hudson. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Fogleson; two sons, Don and Jim Hud- son; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchil- dren. Funeral services were on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 1 p.m. EDT at Harris Fu- neral Home in Petersburg. Visitation was on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funer- al home. GLEN BROCK BRIT TAIN Glen Brock Brittain, 98, of Jasper, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Timbers of Jasper. He was born in Saunemin, Ill., on May 4, 1919, to Earl and Alta Susan ( Yates) Brit- tain. He was a graduate of Ot- well High School Class of 1937. In 1941, Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army and served the duration of W WII un- der General George S. Pat- ton as a combat engineer with the 17th Armored En- gineer Battalion, part of "Hell on Wheels" - 2nd Ar- mored Division in the Euro- pean Theatre. He participat- ed in several major battles, including the North A frican Invasion, the Sicily Invasion, and the Normandy Invasion, landing on Omaha Beach. He was awarded two purple hearts for combat injuries, both occurring while fight- ing in Germany. In 2004, he was awarded the VFW living hero award. His combat history has been recorded by the Vet- erans History Project and can be found in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He married Betty Boger on March 2, 1946, in Wash- ington, Ind. He was a member of Jas- per VFW Post # 673, and Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper. He was a lifelong farmer in Boone Township, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time outdoors. Surviving are his wife, Betty Brittain, of Jasper; two daughters, Glenda (Steve) Wagner, of Jasper, and Bren- da (Terry) McDonnell, of Lancaster, S.C.; one son, Greg Brittain, of New Pal- estine, Ind.; six grandchil- dren; ten great-grandchil- dren; and one sister, Gene- va Himsel, of Jasper. Preceding him in death were one daughter, Lin- da Brittain; one daughter- in-law, Vicki Brittain; one grandchild, Chad McDon- nell; and one sister, Alber- ta Mae Brittain, who died in infancy. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Au- gust 19, 2017, at Shiloh Unit- ed Methodist Church in jas- per, with Rev. Dan Sinkhorn and Pastor Paul Alvey offi- ciating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Peters- burg.
