Master Gardeners feature Oaklyn Wildflower Meadow Native wildflowers are part of our national heritage, and if you know where to look, they are everywhere. The Oaklyn Branch Library in Evansville features a mag- nificent example of wildflow- ers in Southern Indiana. On June 19, the Gibson County Master Gardeners will fea- ture Pam Locker and Debo- rah Schade to talk about the Oaklyn Meadow. As the co- chairs of the Oaklyn Mead- ow project they are experts who can prepare visitors to experience and appreci- ate it. The Oaklyn Library Wild- flower Meadow was started in the spring of 2005. It was planted with native seed by Eco-Logic from Blooming- ton and surrounds the li- brary with paths for visitors to follow so they can experi- ence the setting. It is main- tained by members of the Southwest Indiana Master Gardeners, who continually remove invasive growth so the native wildflowers can spread and thrive. Following the June 19 presentation, on Ju- ly 8, there will be a guided tour through the Oakland Meadow. The June 19 presentation will be at 7 p.m. at Our Sav- iour Lutheran Church. The public is invited to attend at no charge. The Gibson County Mas- ter Gardeners are part of a national organization locat- ed in almost every county in the United States, spon- sored by state universities. Their purpose is to pro- mote effective strategies in gardening and local agricul- ture. Members of the public are invited to participate in Master Gardeners. For more information about this event call Hans Schmitz, Gibson County Extension Director at 812-385 -3491.
