Little Miss Sweet Corn contestants sought Gamma Omega Chapter of Tri Kappa is seeking con- testants for the Oakland City Little Miss Sweet Corn Contest, which will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 28 in the Oakland City School Cafetorium. Contestants must be the ages of 5 to 8 (at the time of the contest). A spon- sor's fee is $40. Contestants must perform a talent or theme attire in addition to a short interview question. Ed Cahill photo NEW HOME FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT Opening ceremonies start at 6:30 p.m. and will be fol- lowed by a community-wide church service put on by the Pike County Ministeri- al Fellowship. It will include a performance by Cochren and Co., featuring Michael Cochren. Monday night will feature the Little Miss and Mr. Pag- eant followed by the Junior Miss Pageant. Tuesday will feature the Miss Teen Pike County and Miss Pike County pageants. Wednesday night will be the 4-H Family fun night with the Hillbilly Water Slide and other games. The mud corral racing is at 7 p.m. on Thursday and the first night the free, un- limited rides will be offered on the midway. A demolition derby re- turns to the fair for the first time in several years on Fri- day night. It is also the 4-H Livestock Auction and an- other night for free rides on the midway. Saturday will feature events all day long, starting early with the youth fishing tourney from 9 to 11 a.m. at Prides Creek. An antique tractor show and classic car show is set to start at 9 a.m. The Super Cross motor- cycle races begin at 7 p.m., with live practice beginning at 4 p.m. ZOAR MOSQUITO FEST AUG. 4 & 5 The Zoar Mosquito Fest will be on August 4 and 5 and they will have events unique to their festival, like the Sta- tionary Parade and wiffle- ball championship. The Sta- tionary Parade starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 5. It will have blaring sirens and parade entries just like any other parade. Except, in- stead of the parade moving by as people watch, the peo- ple walk by and the parade doesn't move. The festival will open Fri- day, August 4, with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., and a BBQ and fried chicken din- ners, followed by the Iron Mountain Band. Saturday's events start early with a breakfast. There will be produce, flow- er and quilt shows contest- ed in the church basement. At 2 p.m., they will have tra- ditional games such as sack races, three-legged races, a balloon toss and egg toss. Each year, they have homemade ice cream and a new flavor, which will be an- nounced later this summer. The Country Store in the old school building will be selling numerous baked goods, jellies and fresh herbs. WINSLOW FIRE DEPARTMENT FESTIVAL SET FOR AUGUST 25-26 The Winslow Fire Depart- ment is sponsoring a festival on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26. It will feature carnival rides and outhouse races, along with many other activities. Rick Mathias said this year they have been able to secure car- nival rides instead of the in- flatable fun houses. Much of the festival is still in the planning. The Winslow Lions Club and Beautification Commit- tee will have a Fall Festival in Winslow on September 15 and 16. It will feature an all day flea market and several other events. PETERSBURG BUFFALO TRACE FESTIVAL WILL CELEBRATE 200 YEARS AS A CITY Petersburg will celebrate their 200th anniversary with a festival on Friday and Sat- urday, September 15 and 16.
