Pike Central finished with 12.75 points in 12th place. Chargers prevail over Tecumseh after rough day of shooting By Andy Heuring Pike Central's golf team had a rough day shooting a 196 with their lowest individ- ual score a 48, but they still won by 17 strokes over Te- cumseh, who shot a 213. The good news for the Chargers is their worst score used was a 50 as their eight players on the course, five varsity and three JV, seven of them shot 50 or better. Some of their better players had tough days shooting in the high 40s instead of the high 30s or low 40s. But the re- sults show how the team has improved overall. Last year the same group of kids would have had a several scores in the high 50s or low 60s. "I am not sure why we just couldn't get things going last night. The course is firming up, but that shouldn't have been the reason. Sometimes the game just wins and that was kinda the case last night," said Charger Coach Jarrod Gideon. "We are definitely improv- ing though and have a cou- ple great opportunities this week to play some of the nic- est courses in southern Indi- ana. I know the kids are re- ally excited about that," said Gideon. The Chargers are sched- uled to play Springs Valley on the Donald Ross Course at French Like. It hosted the PGA won by Walter Hagen in 1924. On Saturday they will play in the Pocket Athletic Conference tournament host- ed by Sultan's Run in Jasper. Monday night one or two big numbers plagued the Chargers, as every card had at least one eight or bigger on it. Arri McDonald and Arie O'Neal led the way for the Chargers, as both shot 48. McDonald had three pars Sharp leads Lady Chargers to 7-1 win By Andy Heuring Pike Central scored four runs in the first highlighted by an Alayna Sharp home run and went on to win 7-1 over South Spencer last Tuesday. South Spencer scored first in the top of the first inning. A. Raaf hit a one-out single then moved to second on K. Frobi- eter's single and scored on a double by C. Cook. Sophie Carnahan then put the clamps on South Spencer striking the next batter and getting the third out on a grounder to shortstop. Carnahan and Chloe Williams com- bined to pitch shutout ball the rest of the way. Carnahan pitched four innings giv- ing up six hits, walking two and allow- ing one run. Williams came in to pitch three innings striking out five and walk- ing three. Pike Central jumped on the Rebels in the bottom of the first. Brailey Mills led off with a 2-1 double to center field. She then stole third and scored on a single by Karley Kavanaugh. Carnahan flew out to second base for the first out. Sharp blasted a pitch over the fence in left center to make it a 3-0 game. Lex- ie Onyett then connected on the first pitch for a single and stole second base. Delaney Welch hit a grounder through the left side of the infield that was mis- played, allowing her to reach first and Onyett to score for a 4-1 Charger lead. Welch started off the fourth inning with a bunt to reach base. Lakin Sorgi- us and Madelyn Fiscus both hit fly balls for the first two outs. Mills then singled on a line drive to center field, moving Welch to third base. Mills stole second base and then third on a passed ball that allowed Welch to score during Kavanaugh's at bat. Kava- naugh then doubled to bring in Mills, giving the Chargers a 6 -1 lead. Pike Central added an insurance run in the sixth. Welch led off with a sin- gle. She went to second on a wild pitch. Sorgius hit a sacrifice to move Welch to third base. She then scored on a passed ball, making it 7-1. South Spencer threatened in the top of the seventh as the first two batters sin- gled. But Williams struck out the third batter and got a grounder to Kavanaugh at short, who went to third to get the lead runner for the second out. Williams then struck out the final batter on three pitch- es to end the game. Alyna Sharp is all smiles as she rounds third base after hit- ting her team leading seventh homerun to lead the Chargers to a 7-1 win over South Spencer last Wednesday. Arie O'Neal stands over a putt on hole two Mon- day night. O'Neal tied for the lowest round by a Pike Central player with a 48. Pike Central won the match over Tecumseh 196 to 213. Charger Lexie Onyett rips a pitch into the left center for a single against South Spencer. Pike Central won the game 7-1.
