The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, August 18, 2021 D-5 Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 3 be surprised if this were so, for faith in our God has in- spired countless great compo- sitions down through the cen- turies. But when their captors demanded that they sing the songs that expressed the joy they felt in their God and their homeland, the sorrow they felt in their hearts would not allow these captives to give voice to such expressions while shack- led with the chains of Babylo- nian bondage. But if God's people cannot sing outside of their Promised Land, how can Paul call on us to be "speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spir- itual songs, singing and mak- ing melody in your heart to the Lord" (Eph. 5:19)? How can we sing the Lord's songs in the land made strange to us by the anti-God sentiment found all around us, and the iniquity upon iniquity that we see on every hand? We believe it is because God has already "raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" (Eph. 2:6). Re- member, we serve a God that "calleth those things which be not as though they were" (Rom. 4:17). In that passage, God was able to call Abraham "the father of many" before he had any children. This is be- cause God had promised to multiply his seed, and so in the mind of God he already had a multitude of descen- dants! In the same way, God can use the past tense in de- scribing how we are already "glorified" (Rom. 8:30), and since the Lord has promised that we will one day "reign with Him" (II Tim. 2:12) from thrones on which we will sit together with Christ in heav- enly places, in His mind it is as good as done, we are as good as there. And if that's not something worth singing about, I don't know what is! Whenever I think I'm caught up something breaks or falls apart. Someone once said that's life and things happen so suck it up buttercup. That was a quote from a preacher friend who happened to pass away from the Covid. I have to take back a bit of my determination about all of us being vaccinated. I was talking to a friend at church and she said she was so aller- gic to so many medicines she was afraid to take it. I hadn't thought of this possibility so there are folks who probably should not take it but be as careful as possible. I was referred to a foot doc- tor in Jasper because I have terrible toe nails. They are ex- tremely thick but he cleaned up my nails and calluses and made another appointment in three months so maybe he can get my feet in better condition. We had a Lions club meet- ing this past Thursday and as usual it was not well attend- ed. We are really needing new members to freshen our out- look and also to be able to han- dle our local projects. We had a table at the fair for informa- tion and possible membership drive. If you talk to Erica or Cathy please consider joining with us to help our communi- ty as much as we can. You can call me at 812-354-9597 if no answer leave a voicemail and I'll happily get back to you. We went to Lawrencev- ille, Illinois to purchase a new television and mattress from Smith store. They used to be Kings Great Buys, but they have changed their name. We have bought sever- al things from them and they have always treated us well. While driving around Law- renceville we saw a restau- rant called "Phoenix Grill." Wo we ate there and it sure has my thumbs up. If you need somewhere to go on a day trip check them out. Sunday school covered what should we be doing since all the pandemics, wars, earth- quakes and all the unnatural occurrences are happening. Do we bring some of our own occurrences on ourselves? These questions are all per- sonal but you should stop and think about them. Rich talked about being happy as possible and being ready whenever your friends seem to be lost in a situation. Have Jesus on your mind and be about doing what you know pleases Him. Never forget as long as we are in this body we will be subject to failing from time to time but don't allow yourself to be sidetracked. Well it's time to end this and you already know that I'm go- ing to ask you to be a bless- ing to all you meet in your dai- ly walk. RAMBLINGS Continued from page 3 Methodist PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the JENNY While we may never know the pain or strug- gles of a rescue dog, the love they show is unlike any other. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a dynamic young pup named Jenny. Jen- ny and her siblings had a very rough life before find- ing their way to the shelter. Now they no longer have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Jenny seems to be the runt of the litter. Although, she is small, she is mighty and very rambunctious. She has short, smooth, black fur, with white accents and white-tipped paws. She should eventually grow in- to her large ears, which, by the way, are very adorn- ing. As you study the Bible and hear of the events taking place in Israel, you realize the coming of the Lord is close at hand. We find now that the Jews are look- ing for a red heifer to start sac- rifices again after none being performed for over 2,000 years. The Bible states, look up for your redemption draws nigh. In other words, keep your eye on the eastern sky for He is coming soon. Be blessed and be ready every day. Freedom under God Our status of dominion [over creation] derives from God's delegated authority. We do not exist as autono- mous persons at liberty to do as we please. Our privilege of dominion does not mean free- dom from God; it means free- dom under God. Our commission to be sub-rulers under God carries with it enormous responsibil- ities. ... He intends for us to rise above the rest of the cre- ated order and to participate rationally and responsibly in his divine purposes. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. August 29, at 7 p.m., fifth Sunday sing at Traylor Union Church. The Secret Burden A much-loved minister of God once carried a secret bur- den of long-past sin deep in his heart. He had committed the sin many years before, during his Bible school training. No one knew what he had done, but they did know he had re- pented. Even so, he had suf- fered years of remorse over the incident. A woman in his church deeply loved God and claimed to have visions in which Jesus Christ spoke to her. The min- ister, skeptical of her claims, asked her, "The next time you speak to the Lord, would you ask Him about my sin." The woman kindly agreed. When she came to the church a few days later, the minister asked, "Did He visit you? " She said, "Yes." "And did you ask Him if he remembered the sin I commit- ted? " "Yes, I asked Him," she re- plied, "Well, what did He say? " "He said, 'I don't remember.'" "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (I John 1:9). Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter 8–7 . Mon. 8–noon .
