The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, August 18, 2021 D-3 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg During their 70 years of captivity in Baby- lon, the people of Israel didn't feel much like singing: "By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. "We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. "For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. "How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? " (Psa. 137:1-4). We are told that the children of Israel were well known for their music, and we wouldn't One of the causalities of our present-day cul- ture is the decline of God's plan for the fami- ly. In the beginning, God created male and fe- male for the purpose of marriage and having children. There is nothing more beautiful or rewarding than a happy family. The love, ten- derness, and joy it brings makes it our most im- portant institution on earth. It is sad to see so many living together without being married. God's loving purpose for people has been distorted and attacked by many enemies. I am often saddened as I read the statistics on divorce and cohabitation which have become causalities of our pop culture. Many in the government, colleges, and even in the church promote same sex marriage. No politician or minister can talk enough and excuse enough to make wrong right. Little by little the cul- ture is slowly destroying God's beautiful plan. The result will be broken hearts, broken lives, dysfunctional children and a life of guilt and misery. One can break God's laws only to dis- cover they have broken their life in the process. Perhaps the church has failed more than any institution in preventing the destruction of mar- riage. In our efforts to be loving and accepting we have become silent as this evil continues to grow like a cancer. Al- most daily I am remind- ed of the pain and sorrow that comes when God's wonderful plan is destroyed. When we get our priorities straight there will be loving homes and a peace and joy that comes from faith in God. The wisest people throughout history have warned us that as the home goes so will the nation. Our nation is on the brink of socialism and internal destruc- tion. This is the result of a moral landslide in America. The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Ricky Kurth Another week is in the record books and it seemed as though each week is very similar to the week before. Covid is still showing its ugly head and it is still hot with some rain from time to time. It's a good thing I have a few things to write about or it would a boring article. I'll al- ways do my best to write what I'm given. I guess I'll start with busting a tire this past Sunday afternoon when someone in the Camp- bellton area was on my side of the road on one of the curves. I ran off the road to keep from having an accident, but I cut a tire while off the road. I hope the other guy didn't mean anything by what happened, because I look at it like something just happened. I'll turn the tire or tires into the insurance and hope they help me. Last Monday was a rainy day so I helped my wife on some of her projects in the house. I wouldn't make much of a home maker be- cause if looks good enough to me I'm done. My wife gives things that deep cleaning as she calls it. Whatever you call it she makes it look good and fresh. Wyatt went with his mom and dad along with Mamaw to meet his teacher while I stayed home with Willow. Really proud of our grand- daughter as she won the "cutest kid" contest at the fair this year. I know I'm prejudiced, but I think both of our grandkids are cute but some- times very mischievous. It didn't take long be- fore Wyatt got into a little trouble on the bus. I think he takes after me and his dad. We were always in some kind of trouble, but never re- ally bad. I finally got my hillsides weed whacked so hopefully they will last the rest of the summer. Looking forward to all being there for a wonderful, blessed service. God's idea of strength and man's idea of strength are op- posite one another. The Lord told Paul, "My strength is made perfect in weakness" (II Corinthians 12:9). Having learned this lesson, Paul could then say, "When I am weak, then I am strong" (II Corin- thians 12:10). A paradox? Not really. Only when Paul admit- ted his own weakness and was willing to get out of the way, could God take over and work. If we try to do God's will in our own strength, then we can take the credit for whatev- er gets accomplished. But that isn't God's way. When we let His strength work through us, then He alone will get the glo- ry and that is as it should be. May God bless each and ev- eryone. Pray for our country. If ever there was a time need- ed for God, it is now. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter WINSLOW G.B. CHURCH 600 E.
