Poplar Street, Petersburg Chargers win 11 events against Vikes The Lady Charger track and field team claimed six firsts in a 72-52 loss against North Posey this past week and the boys won five firsts, but fell 77-55 to the Vikings. Ruby Sallee, Morgan Ander- son, Jenna Meyer and Lauren Young combined for a first in the 400 relay, clocking 57.9. Young won the 300 hurdles in 53.94 and Anderson was third in 58.5. Erika Vinnedge got first in the discus with a toss of 88'5.5" and Kayla Gladish was third (51'1.5"). Vinnedge also claimed the shot put first with a distance of 29'6.75," with Gladish sec- ond (24'6"). Sallee added a win with a six foot leap in the pole vault and Quinlan Teague took a first in the 3200 run in 12:27.0, with Kennedy Willis third (14:06.81). Teague was second in the 800 (2:51.87) and Willis third (2:56.06). Anderson was second in the 100 (13.6) and Jenna Mey- er third (14.34). Anderson placed second in the 110 hur- dles in 18.35 and Young was third (18.38). Meyer placed second in the 200 dash, clocking 31.04. Ijaa Chambers, Joey Rid- ao, Peyton Chanley and Xavi- er Shoultz teamed for a win in the 3200, with a time of 9:12.0. Chanley, Chambers and Shoultz swept the 1600 run (5:25, 5:32.69, 5:39.84), and Chanley and Dallas Re- utepohler were first and second in the 3200 (11:29, 12:21, 12:47). Stephen Krieg won the shot put with a toss of 39'.5" and Griffin Boyd took first in the pole vault at 10'6", with Garrett Boyd third (9'6"). Krieg added a second in the discus taping 110'3". Ridao and Chambers were second and third in the 800 (2:22.47, 2:25.81), and Gar- rett Boyd took a second in the 100 (11.56) and a third in the 200 (24.09). Braden Howald took a third in the 110 hurdles (19.06) and 300 hurdles (54.81), and Fenn McCrary rounded out the scoring with a third place in the 400 dash (1:02). Rangers best Netters 5-0 Monday's match-up with Pocket Athletic Conference foe Forest Park was a 5 -0 win for the visiting Lady Rangers. The Lady Chargers forfeited the number two doubles match and fell in straight sets in the remaining match- es. Lady Charger Ella McGuire lost to Brooke Haug 6 -0, 6 -0 at number one singles, and Shel- by Keeker battle to a 7-6, 6 -1 in number two sin- gles with Forest Park's Kenzie Schulz. Jamie Sallee fell to Lady Ranger Payton Dilger 6 -0, 6 -0 in the number three singles match, and Zoey Davis and Reagan Craig were bettered 6 -0, 6 -0 by Ranger seniors Molly Lusk and Kaylee Uebelhor. In junior varsity singles action, Ella Adams lost to Avan Schneider 8 -3, Alaina Johnson fell to Amy Wahl, and Gabby Collins lost to Ali Wahl 8 -2. Chargers take fourth at Wood Memorial Invitational By Andy Heuring Pike Central's boys' golf team placed fourth in the Wood Memorial Invitation- al on Saturday. It was won by Gibson Southern, with a team score of 313. Ryan Is- lam was the medalist with a 72. The Titans' highest in- dividual score was 82. Host Wood Memorial placed sec- ond with a team 346, Evans- ville Christian was third with 397 and Pike Central had a 435 in fourth. Tyler Craig led the Char- gers with a 102, he shot 49 in the front nine and 53 on the back nine. Colby McKinney had a 104. He struggled on the first nine with a 57, but recovered nicely with a 47 on the back nine. Hunter Traylor had a 107, shooting 55 on the front and 52 on the back nine. Freshman Arri McDon- ald posted a steady 122, with 61 in the front and 61 on the back. With last season can- celled due to COVID, Pike Central's squad doesn't have a single player with varsity experience. "I'm re- ally proud of how hard our guys are working. Their scores may not show it yet, but they will eventually," said Pike Central Coach Jarrod Gideon of his young squad. The meet was played Saturday morning. Gideon said Saturday afternoon he went to Prides Creek to help his wife, Ashley, who man- ages Prides Creek. See more on B-3 Williams pitches 3-0 shutout at home Lady Charger Home team fans saw some strong pitch- ing on both sides Monday night, when the Lady Char- gers turned a three-run third inning into the win over the visiting Heritage Hills Lady Patriots. The Pocket Athlet- ic Conference win featured nine strikeouts by Williams and 10 by Lady Patriot Rylie Schipp. Both pitchers were stingy on issuing free pass- es with just one walk apiece. Schipp helped herself with two of her team's four hits, but Williams got her own help with a double by Ken- zie Powell, and singles off the bats of Mallory Hickey and Hallie Bailey. Bailey was responsible for two RBIs and Lexie Onyett had the other for the import- ant PAC win. Karley Kavana- ugh, Avery Hunt and Mallo- ry Hickey crossed the plate in the third for the 3-0 Mon- day night win on the Charger diamond. The Lady Charger field- ing was error free, but the Lady Patriots stumbled three times handling the ball under game-winning stress.
