Lady Chargers tennis gets dramatic win By Andy Heuring Pike Central's girls' tennis got a third-set win from the number two doubles team to beat North Daviess 3-2 on Tuesday. With the team score knot- ted at 2-2, Pike Central's number two doubles team of Reagan Craig and Ella Ad- ams won a hard-fought third set 6 -3 to give the Chargers the win. They won their first set 6 -2, but the team of Bella Laughlin and Austyn Miller rallied for a 7-5 win the sec- ond set, before Craig and Ad- ams pulled out the third-set win. The stage was set for the dramatic final match with Lady Charger Shelby Keek- er picking up a razor thin win over Emma Sargent at number two singles. Keeker won the first set 7-5 and then closed out with a 6 -4 win in the second set. At number one doubles, seniors Kenley Back and Zo- ey Davis rolled over the op- ponents Haley Blevines and Kenzlye Jeffers 6 -0, 6 -1. North Daviess' Abigail Giesler beat Charger number one singles Ella McGuire 6 - 3, 6 -2, and Cougar Madison Ramsey, at number three sin- gles, won 6 -3, 6 -4 over Char- ger Jaime Sallee. The win improved Pike Central's varsity record to 2-4. In junior varsity matches, Alaina Johnson was involved in two wins. She and Gabby Collins won 8 -5 in a pro set doubles match. Johnson then won a sin- gles match 8 -0. Lady Chargers tennis falls at Boonville invite Boonville advanced with a 3-2 win over the Lady Char- gers with four well-contested matches and a forfeit. Number one and two sin- gles prevailed in the match with Boonville during the Mt. Vernon Invitational this past Friday. Lady Charger Ella McGuire bettered La- dy Pioneer Katelyn Day 6 - 2, 6 -4 in the number one sin- gles match. Shelby Keek- er claimed a 4-6, 6 -3 (11-9) win over Lady Pioneer Ad- dy Blackford in number two singles. Lady Charger Jaime Sallee lost a close one to Ken- dra Wright 5 -7, 6 -3 (4-10) at number three singles. Regan Craig and Zoey Da- vis lost a 6 -2, 6 -3 number one doubles match to the Pi- oneers and the number two doubles match was a forfeit. In the second match, the Lady Chargers fell 5 -0 after both a singles and doubles battle with Wood Memorial. Regan Craig and Zoey Davis battled to a 5 -7, 6 -4 (10 -4) loss to Wood Memorial Lady Trojans Taylor Houchins and Myliyla Spindler in number one doubles. Alaina Johnson and Jaime Sallee teamed in the number two doubles, fall- ing 6 -1, 6 -1 to Lady Trojans Kierstan Bottom and Bree Rowe in number two doubles. Ella McGuire fell to La- dy Trojan Rachel Pollock 6 -2, 6 -0 at number one sin- gles. Shelby Keeker fought to a 6 -4, 6 -4 loss to Lady Tro- jan Madie Boyd in the num- ber two singles match. Lady Charger Ella Adams fell to Brylie Rowe 6 -1, 6 -1 in num- ber three singles action. Netters fall 5-0 to North Posey The Lady Chargers tennis team lost to Pocket Athletic Conference foe North Posey 5 -0 while on the road this past Wednesday. Lady Char- gers Kenley Beck and Zoey Davis lost a close set 7-6 in number one doubles action, and finished 7-6, 6 -1 against Ellie Carlson and Rachel Newman. The team of Rea- gan Craig and Alaina John- son fell to Lady Vikes Ken- nedy Gauer and Grace Cull- man 6 -2, 6 -2 in their number two doubles match. Lady Charger Ella Mc- Guire lost to Sydni Flowers 6 -0, 6 -1 in the number one singles contest, and Shelby Keeker was bettered by La- dy Viking Alexa Simmons 6 - 0, 6 -4 at number two singles. Lady Charger Jaime Sallee fell to Lady Viking Meaghan Pearl 6 -2, 6 -0 at the number three singles court. Tecumseh nips Lady Chargers 3-1 Both Pike Central and the Tecumseh Lady Braves had three scoreless innings be- fore the Braves got three runs across over the fourth and fifth, and then held on for a 3-1 win at Lynnville last Tuesday. Chloe Williams pitched the six innings, al- lowing three singles, two doubles and three earned runs, while walking three. Xia Stafford and Avery Hunt got the only Lady Char- ger hits and Hunt had the only RBI. Mallory Hickey scored in the sixth, and she and Lexie Oyett were the on- ly ones to get on base with a walk. Green registered 10 strikeouts, walked two, al- lowed one earned run and the two Charger hits. Williams had a good night on the mound for the Lady Chargers, but error-less La- dy Tecumseh fielders and a little better bats by the Braves got them the 3-1 win.
