The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, Februar y 5, 2020 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 2 Pentecostal Lutheran Wesleyan Methodist Steve and I practiced about two hours Saturday afternoon since we enter- tain Monday afternoon at River Walk communities assisted living center. We had pulled a couple new songs from the internet and needed to get our breaks and tempos together. A fter we practiced we got out my banjo to see what it sound- ed like backing up Steve's guitar and singing. It didn't sound bad, but we still need to work on it before it gets debuted in public. My wife has worked on a puzzle off and on now for a couple of weeks and it came up missing a piece. We wanted to save this puz- zle because it is a big ea- gle. We like to watch the birds of prey on I69 be- cause they look really re- gal sitting there waiting on a meal. Oh well, maybe we will find the missing piece if we keep looking. Well I've tried some- thing a little different with Sunday's sermon. As we read the scriptures the congregation was invit- ed to respond with their thoughts. Our lesson start- ed with Judas judging how wrong Mary was when she used such expensive oint- ment on the feet of Jesus. I can't answer for his mo- tives in this passage but you can tell by the reading it, he thought they were wrong by his standards. The aim of this lesson was not necessarily not to judge which is wrong. But to take thought about why some- one is doing things the way they are doing them. Ma- ny times we use our stan- dards and what we would do to make calls that can sometimes be explained if we took the time to love, rather than being critical of our Brothers and Sisters. Be very careful you don't cause a weaker Christian to give up and say, what's the use. The lesson was a joy to bring and it seemed as though it was well re- ceived. As always go out this week and be a blessing to someone. ST. JOHN'S LUTHER AN CHURCH 6483 W. 580 N. "God cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful" ( John 15:2, NIV ). God prunes us in different ways to draw our attention back to our faith. When God lops off old habits and re- freshes our commitment to prayer, Bible study and ser- vice, we produce more abun- dant fruit for the kingdom. Thought for the day: God's pruning helps me pro- duce more fruit for the king- dom. Prayer: "Father God, thank you for seasons of pruning that result in great- er harvests of fruit for you" —Amen. SR 56 Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday morning worship 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in chaos. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Are you walking in the fullness of faith that can be yours? Or are you allowing the voice of the enemy halt- ing you from pursuing and walking in what the Word says is yours. If God's Word states that these promises belong to the child of God it's time to buckle down and take that step of faith and walk in the promises of God. Come vis- it us, our doors are always open to you. Laws or love? Businessman John Bar- rier, unrecognizable in jeans and a T-shirt, cashed a check at his long-time bank. But the teller refused to validate his parking tick- et, saying Barrier hadn't made an official transac- tion. A manager agreed, saying rules were rules. Barrier then performed a major transaction: with- drawing $1 million and tak- ing it elsewhere. He got his parking ticket validated af- ter all. What a great illustra- tion of the perils of legal- ism, when man-made laws become more important than people. Jesus repeat- edly healed and "worked" on the Sabbath, much to the dismay of religious leaders. He was concerned about people's hearts, not their appearance. What matters more to you: laws or love? Appear- ance or substance? A heart examination may be in or- der. Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoev- er believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" ( John 3:16). There was a four-year- old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recent- ly lost his wife. Upon see- ing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentle- man's yard, climbed onto his lap and just sat there. When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry. This is a great example of how we can show love to others. Look around this week and see whom you might be able to help. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY
