"I just want to say how proud I am of this group of girls," Pike Central coach Eric Knight said. "They have improved each and every game and are also a very fun group of girls to coach. They were all very coachable and would give you their all. I look for- ward to seeing this group of kids grow and develop. Throughout the season, they have been up against teams that have been playing at the JV or varsi- ty level action for a year or two. My five freshman and one sophomore have had some challenges and tough games. They never backed down or quit. I can say I really noticed a dif- ference each game. Confidence went up each game and ball handling skills have improved each game. With some work over the offseason, I believe this group will really help out the Lady Chargers program." Liberty Taylor led Pike Central with six points against Heritage Hills. Oth- er Lady Charger scorers were Tiffany Artega (5), Kahle Young (3) and Ken- na Young (1). "Heritage Hills played a very tough defense against us in this game," Knight said. "The first half we re- sponded very well and competed with them. We missed a lot of open looks in the first half. The effort was great. The shots were great. Just couldn't get them to fall. Heritage Hills changed up some girls after halftime and al- so changed the pace of the game. We did not respond well to it. A fter they changed the pace of play in the sec- ond, it was hard for us to get into the offense and get good looks at the bas- ket. I hate to get beat like this in the last game of the season, but the post- game comments with the girls helped them see and realize what little things we need to work on over the summer to get ready for the next level or next season." several challenges. They both have good size that gave us trouble rebound- ing the basketball. We were shorthanded both nights with kids out with the flu, so it forced us to play more zone and Tecumseh did not hurt us from the perimeter until the second half, but Heritage Hills shot it very well for the entire game. We knew these would be two tough games, but it would be good tests heading into sec- tional because we know Vin- cennes is a very good team." Pike Central lost 87-43 at Heritage Hills on Thursday, Jan. 30. Lauren Vaughn led the La- dy Chargers with 17 points. She was followed by Kenzie Powell (8), Jayln Nelson (6), Mallory Hickey (6), Kailee Mann (3) and Mallory Hunt (3). The Lady Patriots put on an impressive shooting dis- play that included seven 3-pointers in the first half. Pike Central lost 66 -34 to Tecumseh on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Vaughn led the team again with 11. Other scorers were Kahle Young (8), Nel- son (6), Mann (3), Hickey (2) and Liberty Taylor (2).
