Retired teachers to hear Senator Messmer State Senator Mark Messmer will present the Sen- ate's plans for increased funding for public education and maintaining the state's share of the public pen- sion for retired teachers to the Pike/Gibson Retired Teachers Association at the Village Inn on Highway 57, between Oakland City and Petersburg, December 12, with the buffet lunch to be served at noon EST. Retirees are welcome to bring a dozen cookies and then select twelve cookies to take home. Extra plates will be provided. Plans call for singing Christmas car- ols and planning a spring outing. Pike Ave., Petersburg More PES robotics teams qualify for state finals Petersburg Elementary School had three more ro- botics teams qualify for state finals after a great Saturday in Bloomington. All of PES' teams were in the top five places in the Bloomington competition. "I'm so proud of all of my PES Robotics teams. Every team did so well in Bloom- ington today and were in the top five. We brought home five trophies and earned three spots at state," said Robotics team sponsor Ter- ra Knust. The Petersburg team Pink Pegasus won Excellence and first place teamwork and will be advancing to state. Dab- bing Einsteins won Robot Skills Champion and first place teamwork and will be advancing to state. Flaming Dragons won Design Award. Sour Power was awarded a spot at state due to their high driver skills and program- ming score. Petersburg will host a competition this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the elementary school, with 35 teams competing, including Winslow. "We would love for the community to come sup- port our teams and see what robotics is all about," said Knust. Admission is free and con- cessions will be available for purchase. PES Flaming Dragons won the Design Award and had a top five finish. Members are: Eli Keek- er, Landon Harvey, Llinkyn Knust, Callie Craig and Draven Barrett. PES Dabbing Einsteins won first place in the Teamwork Challenge and are advancing to state. They were also the Robot Skills Champion. Mem- bers include: Tucker Loveless, Joshua Harker, Ja- cob Harker, Noah Berry and Jackson Burkhart. PES Pink Popcorn had a top five finish. Mem- bers include: Tyler Collins, Zayne Bell, Ellie Ar- nold and Joshua Smith. PES Pink Pegasus won first place in the Team- work Challenge and are advancing to state. They also won the Excellence Award. Members are: Lo- ralei Hoskins, Kady Gideon, Avery Meece, Elle Readle and Eva Cox. PES Sour Power had a top five finish and qual- ified for state. Members are: Karly Gideon, Kade Benner, Channing Sorgius, Kiera Blaize and Zane DeCoursey.
