Poplar Street, Petersburg lowship last Thursday evening at Village Inn as they had their Christmas get together. The Lions will celebrate Christmas next Thursday evening. The Village Inn is a nice place to eat and we should all support them with our busi- ness. We hear about Pike County never having a good place to eat and the Village Inn is there and has been for years. Let's support them. I'm starting to realize it doesn't matter much if you get anything accomplished each day or not. Somehow it seems like if it doesn't get done, it will still be there tomorrow and if tomorrow doesn't come what does it matter. We drive ourselves crazy with the pressure we place ourselves under. This also goes with volunteering for things around town because it seems as though the same people always In Romans 2:11, we read that "there is no respect of persons with God," and these very words, with slight variations, are found many times in the Bible. How wonderful! No "big wheels" with Him! Rather, all stand on the same footing before His bar of justice. Do you know why the kings in Israel's history were — and were meant to be — so rich? This was so that they might rule with true justice, beholden only to God. The rich could not bribe the king, nor could the pow- erful intimidate him, for he was far richer and more powerful than they. There was only one person over the king, spiritually: the prophet, who kept reminding him of the Word and the claims of God. Well, God is infinitely richer than all the wealthy rulers, barons and money magnates of this world put together, thus there is "no respect of persons with Him." Also, justice is one of His divine attributes, hence it is un- thinkable that He should show favoritism. But now a question: If God is no respect- er of persons, why did He favor one nation, Israel, above all the rest and, for many cen- turies, bless them above all others? The an- swer: God made a difference to show that "there is no difference" (Romans 3:22,23). He made an artificial difference, a dispen- sational difference, to show that there was no essential difference, no moral difference. He erected a "middle wall of partition" be- tween us to show that, that wall must be bro- ken down (Ephesians 2:14-16). And thus it is that the same God who once said to Israel: "Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant … Unto you first…" (Acts 3:25,26) This same God now says: "There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek [Gentile], for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10 :12,13). Stam Enjoy the bells this Christmas Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin The Salvation Army bells are ringing at shopping centers and malls. This is a re- minder of Christmas and the less fortu- nate among us. In addition to caring for the needy, the Army has never forgotten its ma- jor message which is sharing the Gospel. In one recent year the organization record- ed more than 150,000 decisions for Christ. The Salvation Army is both a spiritual and social ministry. They are always on the front lines when there is a disaster. It makes no difference whether it's a flood or a hurricane. The Army will be there with love, food and spiritual help. In recent years some merchants have stopped the bells from ringing at their busi- nesses. One way to help preserve this great ministry to the needy is to thank those who let the bells ring. When you drop your mon- ey in the kettle you can be sure some child will have a Christmas and some hungry family will be fed. This year, with the booming econo- my and millions em- ployed, let us be gen- erous. I always get a thrill when I hear the bells ringing and drop something in the kettle. It's an im- portant part of the Christmas season. Good encourage- ment is found in the Bible. It says, "Give and it shall be given unto you." The hundreds of professional people who dedicate their time and effort to the plan- ning and work are to be commended. Some of the finest leaders in every community serve on Salvation Army boards and donate endless hours to this worthy cause. As lib- eral groups oppose this great organization and try to stop the bells, let's support the Army. It is just a few more days until Christmas and kids and kids at heart are waiting for the man who says HOHOHO. I can remember when I was a child many years ago it was al- ways exciting whenever Santa would come to bring presents. It hasn't changed because how can you make Santa better. He is pretty awe- some and always will be. My wife and I had to go to Evansville three times last week for appointments and one day it was near noon traffic which was heavy and you had to watch in all four directions at once. Highway 69 is a great asset when you are trav- eling to Evansville but there are a couple of annoying things that happen often and that is left lane drivers and horn honkers. The left lane drivers clog up traffic and become dan- gerous as others try to pass and then pull back into the right lane. I don't own the highway and I know others have a right to drive as they please but there is something called courtesy which should come into play here. As far as the honkers I read a story about geese who honk from be- hind to give encouragement to the goose lead- ing them and cutting off lots of the wind draft similar to NASCAR drafting. I don't think the honkers I'm talking about are very encourag- ing but rather saying get out of the way. Have any of you got a spare room which has been taken over as a storage unit. My wife and I have tried for more than a year now to over- come such a mess. The worst part of all this is most of it is new stuff, we bought because it was such a good deal. Good deals often end up stashed away until we need it and then we wonder what we did with it. Christmas is a time of music. Tradition tells us Christ's entrance into the world was heralded by heav- enly music.
