Our card is a painted "Joy and Peace" Christmas card of a Christmas tree of white, with a border of poinsettias, a star on top, a candle, a dove, a trumpet and bells, also trimmed with stars and a heart. The card reads, "Hi, Sweets! May your Christmas season be filled with joy and peace. Jamie Tormohlen." There was also a 2020 pocket calendar with another painting of white daisies and yellow center flowers. Janie, thank you for our first Christ- mas card and calendar. We hope your Christmas is enjoyable with family around the tree, may your year bring you happiness. Winslow Patoka River is over its banks. At Riverside Park, the boat ramp, where the beaver is, has wa- ter on it, and north of the boat ramp, there are ponds of water near High- way 61. Then, by the bridge going west, it's high by Miller's Field, but by the Winslow liquor store, some of the field has water. The Patoka River rose from all the rain we had Friday, Saturday and Sunday a week ago. So, much of that wet stuff we had ponds and streams in our yards. Winslow Main Street has their wreaths up on the electric poles and they are lit up with white lights. More and more yards and houses have got into the decorating spirit and they all really look great. If you drive through Winslow, stop in and see the Winslow Winter Wonderland, where several dis- plays are set up for your enjoyment. Last Thursday, as Norm and I were driving through the sports field to the community center for our Winslow Li- ons Christmas party, we saw six deer crossing the road by the ditch and one more standing by the road to cross. They came out of the woods north of the ball diamonds and were either grazing in the grassy area by the ditch or about to go into the woods behind the school. I hope they didn't cross the highway. But seven of Santa's reindeer were in Winslow to check us out. Our Winslow Lions Club Christmas party and meal was great as the 11 Li- ons and two guests ate turkey, dress- ing, gravy, sweet potatoes, au-gratin potatoes mashed potatoes and sever- al pies and cake. Our Lions have real- ly great cooks, as we all got ourselves stuffed from all the delicious food. I ate some dessert, but I really shouldn't have, but I'm one who likes the sweets. We usually draw numbers and then pick out our gift and the next one may take your gift or pick another one, and so on. However, this year, we all de- cided to just pick out a gift when our number was called and I got a what- not shelf that hangs on the wall, but then the three picture frames slide in- to the shelf and hang under the hang- er shelf. Norm got a big box of choc- olate-covered cherries (my favorite). We all loved our gifts and we all had a great time with our roaring Winslow Lions. We decided after our Decem- ber Saturdays of the Winter Wonder- land and Santa, we would get back to- gether and roar again on February 6, 2020 at 7 p.m. This is a busy month with shopping and parties to attend, so to not get too worn out, take your time and don't get in such a hurry. Try not to overspend and get into that debt you carry into the new year. There are a lot of things you can do with your family that will be enjoyable for everyone. Take the time to get in the car and travel through your neighborhood to see all the dec- orations put up for you to smile and say "wow." Have you washed a load of laundry and put them in the dryer and heard a sound but the dryer is still blowing out the hot air? Our dryer used to have a squeak, but not it doesn't because the belt which turns the drum broke. My brother go the parts we need to fix it. Since Mom's bags had to be picked up, we waited until Friday to not make sev- eral trips. It's nice to have a brother who knows a lot about everything. Now I'm not saying anything against Norm because he also knows a lot about ev- erything. Thanks to Vernon again for the use of his dryer. It's time to dim the lights on this week, but keep an eye on family and friends to be sure they are warm with the freezing temps to come, slow down and enjoy what is all around you in your area. Plus, since this is deer season, slow down and watch for them crossing the roadways. Then as always, smile, wave and say hi to everyone you see this week. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Bruce A.
