The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, December 11, 2019 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Presbyterian Wesleyan do the lion's portion of the work. I'm not complaining as much as it sounds and I do enjoy being a part of our community, but if you read this article and think about not having anything to do you could always join the rest of us volunteers. I won't say much about my liver ailments other than my fibrous scan showed better results than we had imag- ined. I still have concerns but they are a little less than anticipated. Our Sunday school was about our offerings and our vows of love for God. He demands our best without blemish. It was mentioned that our sacrifice is our rea- sonable service and how we are blemished, but Jesus has taken care of our blemishes. So many people believe you must dress in their fin- ery and look as though it was commanded, but when you put on your best you should put on the best you and pre- pare yourself for another week which will place many demands on your faith, so why go to church? It is to re- new yourself and to prepare to meet your challenges. Our scripture lesson was about idolatry and how we can make an idol out of most anything. God doesn't want to be a convenient add on to your life He wants you to al - low His love to guide your life. God repeats several times about being a jealous God. He wants all of your de- votion not just part of it. Well let's get out there and become a blessing to others and let's allow others to bless us. I had the nicest Christ- mas list, the longest one in town, til Daddy looked at it and said, "you'll have to trim it down." I knew that what he said was true be- yond the faintest doubt, but was amazed to hear him say, "you've left your best friend out." And so I scanned my list again, and said, "oh, that's not true." But Daddy said, "His name's not there- the Friend who died for you." And then I clearly un- derstood-'Twas Jesus that he meant; For Him who should come first of all, I hadn't planned a cent. So now I've had to drop some names of folks I like a lot, but Jesus must be first of all-His name is at the top. This Christmas, enjoy giv- ing gifts to your loved ones, but never lose sight of the rea- son for the giving—the spec- tacular favor of God on His creation crystallized in the gift of His own Son to save us from our sin. We give because He gave. May we worship Him in gratitude. Why is Jesus the greatest Christmas gift you ever re- ceived? How can you share this gift with others more ef- fectively. "Father, thank You for Je- sus, the greatest gift of all"— Amen. Merry Christmas. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Mat- thew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back in- to our lives—a peace that passes all understand- ing—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Where were you and what were you doing? Great events in history make their mark in our minds. I was sit- ting in my future in-law's liv- ing room when man walked on the moon. When the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon were at- tacked on 9 -11, I was taking another training course for the Army at Fort Jackson, S.C. For some a little older, I was walking between class- es in high school when Pres- ident John F. Kennedy was killed in Dallas, Texas. When something great happens…."And there were shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night." "And there came wise men from the east saying, 'where is he who is born King of the Jews? '" Jesus is coming, what are you going to be doing when he gets here? Only two Advent Sundays left to get ready for Christ- mas. What will you be doing when he gets here? Let's talk about getting ready this Sun- day. Paul says you are God's field/garden. When we hear or read the Word, we are planting into our gar- den/mind, soul and spirit. What are we producing? Be sure that His seed gets wa- tered and catch those weeds (acts of sin) and pull them out while they are small, so that the roots of your fruit are not destroyed" (I Corin- thians 3:5 -9).
