WASHINGTON GRAPPLERS Continued from page 1 A fter the Bears picked up back-to-back forfeits – at 182 pounds and 195 pounds – to close to within 30 -18, Evans- ville Central senior Dylan Carrier, wrestling at 220 pounds, pinned Pike Central sophomore Cody Davis with two seconds left in the first period to narrow the Char- gers' lead to 30 -24. Pike Central freshman Adon Sanchez picked up a win by forfeit at 285 pounds, extending the Chargers' lead to 36 -24, before Evans- ville Central won back-to- back matches – a 9 -2 win by decision by freshman Aydan Amento over Chargers soph- omore Isaiah Greer at 113 pounds and a win by pin by freshman Ian Madden over Chargers sophomore Lane Miller at 120 pounds with 26 seconds left in the first peri- od – to pull to within 36 -34. In the last bout of the match, Pike Central junior Dalton Williams, wrestling at 126 pounds, built up a 7-2 lead before pinning Evans- ville Central sophomore Chris Trinh with 15 sec- onds left in the first period to give the Chargers a 42- 34 victory. "I was very pleased with how we wrestled overall," Pike Central head coach Ry- an McCain said. "The guys went right after it and we got on a roll, got the momentum going our way, so it set us up nice to come away with that win." "This is my fourth year full-time coaching and, in those four years, we've al- ways been real close with Evansville Central," Mc- Cain added. "So to come away with this one, it was a big deal for me because they're always athletic and they're always game." With the Pocket Athletic Conference Championship set for Saturday, Jan. 19, at Heritage Hills, and the sec- tional meet scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, at South- ridge, McCain noted that Miller has been moved to 120 pounds and that Goep- pner – who has wrestled as high as 152 pounds – has been moved back to 132 pounds. In addition, Gordon has returned to the starting line- up at 138 pounds after ju- nior Blake Henson suffered a season-ending shoulder in- jury earlier in the week. "We have Evansville Me- morial on Tuesday, which is a dual meet, and then we will ride in the conference," McCain said. "I think these last couple weeks not having a full Saturday tournament will actually play in our fa- vor. Our guys will be well rested, healthy and ready to get after it. I can't wait to see how we do at conference and sectional."
