Winslow seniors meet at the Winslow Communi- ty Center on Monday and Tuesday. Petersburg se- niors meet on Monday, Tues- day, Wednesday and Friday in the Courthouse basement. There were no postcards this week at Sweets Col- umn, Winslow, IN 47598. The Winslow Patoka River is full but not to the overflow point. We did have much more rain Monday night and off and on all day Tuesday that al- so brought us some really nice, not humid, days. We got to open up the windows and turn off the air condi- tioner until Saturday, Au- gust 25, when the humidity began again. Sometimes we experience some odd situa- tions and Tuesday, August 21 was one of them. We had to go on an errand, and when we left the house it was be- ginning to sprinkle. When we got to the pantry it was a little sprinkle, but one bock North on Main St. to First St. on Brenton, where the town workers were fixing a broken pipe, it was a heavy down- pour. When we drove anoth- er block north, it was sprin- kles again. We drove to Pe- tersburg, Jasper, Hunting- burg and Arthur, and were in and out of the showers. We now have water again in the bathroom and now no more drip, drip, drip. I still check the faucets for drips, but pretty soon I'll realize we have new faucets with- out drips. The Winslow Riverside Flea Market, Saturday, Au- gust 18, was hot but not as humid. We had four vendors and the Winslow Lions. We would like to thank all of the vendors who make our flea market. We are looking for- ward to seeing each of you at the Winslow Community Festival on September 15. The Winslow Beautification has 10x10 spaces for sale on Main St. parking lot. Some of the vendors will be at River- side Park again. At Riverside Park on Sep- tember 15, the Winslow Li- ons will serve breakfast, lunch, ice cream and more goodies for your tummy. There will be the big slide, golf and balloon games for the kids and the stage will have Lowell Thomas at 10 :30 a.m.. Awards will be given out at noon, Com - mon Ground Band plays at 1 p.m., at 4:30 p.m., the ka- raoke contest for "The Voice of Winslow" will begin, and you can pre-register for that from noon to 4 p.m. with an entry fee. The Tractor Show will be here again, and the shut- tle service to both places. A two-mile kayak float with the Kayak Mafia will take place as well. The Light- Up Winslow parade at dark will line up on Union St. and the first fifty units in the pa- rade will receive something. Norm has his item to put in, and soon it will be lit up. Sev- eral other stars have their item ready to enter. Next week, I will let you know how Sunday, August 26 Celebration of Life and IVFA service for Kari Young went. It was at the Spurgeon Mon- roe Fire Station with family and friends. Recapturing Civic Pride in the Town of Winslow has gift cards for Home De- pot brought to you by the Winslow Beautification. Take pictures of your proj- ect before and after of the painting, landscaping or just plain decluttering that you accomplished. Anything that improves the appearance of your home is allowed. Email the photos to Winslow Beau- tification Committee at beau- tification@townofwinslow. com. Get your photos in early for the September gift cards. Did you know that our town has a website made by one of our stars where you can find many places, events, town meetings and lots more important news in our friend- ly town? Check it out at town- ofwinslow.com. Our yards in the back 40 are losing more mowing ar- eas so we can stack more wood to keep us warm and cozy at the cabin. Now the wet ground has to dry up so the truck can drive over it without rutting it up or get- ting stuck. We will have our August temps here again and the high humidity, so that will help to dry things out. We got to see our daugh- ter, Laura, for a few nights when she came home to sleep. She is always on the go, but she likes what she does for her job. If you like your job, then your clients will like to have you around. If you don't enjoy what you do, then it's time to get into another vocation. My mom has been here for the past two weeks, and it has been a pleasure to have her here. She left last weekend and we will see her again at the Meyer reunion Septem- ber 9. Terri Ann was here several days, and we got to visit together and laugh with Mom. Fly your American Flag on September 3 for Labor Day. Well I guess it's time to stop the ramblings and dim the lights. But keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy the area around you. Stop for school buses and watch out for all our kids. As always, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
