Ed Cahill photo Celebrating the Arts of Pike Central High School Alumni Dinner was Nov. 12 The first Celebrating the Arts of Pike Central High School Alumni Dinner was held at Pike Central on Sat- urday, Nov. 12. Alumni from 1975 through 2015 partici- pated in displaying their cre- ative abilities, ranging from writing, painting, quilting, metalworking, singing and theater. Contributing artists in- cluded: Terri Smith Kerr ('75), Eddie Casson ('76), Mark Floyd ('76), Rob Bartlett ('76), Vaughn Harp- er ('77), Jeff Harting ('78), Lynna Woolsey ('79), Brick Briscoe ('79), Rachel Hem- mer Hughes ('79), Bet- sy Leavitt ('81), Mick Het- man ('83), Stephanie Gas- kins McGuire ('88), Tonda Thorne Welch ('90), Ste- phen Beard ('94), Jamie Ro- eder Dunigan ('95), Chainy Woolsey ('98), Daniel Na- than Fair ('03), Cody Can- non ('06), Hunter Elliott ('07), Samantha Keller Wil- lis ('07), Benjamin Thorne ('09), Dylan Query ('15), and Jeremy Ross (PC Art Teacher). A fter dinner, a dedica- tion ceremony was held in the recently renamed Hays Auditorium. Brick Bris- coe ('79) served as emcee of the event. PCSC Super- intendent Suzanne Blake ('79) read the school board resolution naming the audi- torium the Vance Hays Au- ditorium and presented the plaque that would be mount- ed in Mr. Hays' honor. Par- ticipating in the dedication ceremony were alumni Mi- chael Cochren ('10), Eddie Casson ('76), Matt Fisher ('99), Jim ('76) and Lynna ('79) Woolsey, Dave Foster, Clint Allen ('79) and Tyler Simpson ('07). Organizers of the event in- cluded Cindy Gaskins, Car- la Kinman Willis ('79), Su- san Davis Flint ('79), Casey Frederick Hand ('07), Emi- ly Lee ('11) and Mrs. Carol Fisher (PES retired teacher). The Pike County Com- mission for Arts and Educa- tion, Inc., hopes to make the alumni celebration a recur- ring event. "It's great to see the ac- complishments of Pike Cen- tral Alumni and we realize that this was just the tip of the iceberg," said Blake. "We have many more who could be included in future events and we look forward to doing so. I appreciate the time the organizers put in so that this could happen. I al- so appreciate the help of Me- lissa Thorne Traylor ('04), Ross Elmore ('79), and our staff who assisted in prepar- ing for the event. It's great to be a Charger! "
