The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, November 16, 2016 B- 3 to coach. A lot of positives came from this game." The Lady Chargers took a 4-0 lead on back-to-back baskets by Kenzie Pow- ell and Mallory Hickey in the first two minutes of the game. Then – after North Posey's Jenna Heath scored to pull the Lady Vikings to within 4-2 with 2:12 left in the opening quarter – Pike Central rattled off seven straight points on consecu- tive baskets by Kenley Beck and Hickey and a three- pointer by Lauren Young to open up a 11-2 lead by the end of the first period. The Lady Vikings pulled to within 11-4 when Grace Glaser scored with 5:13 remaining in the second quarter, but the Lady Char- gers scored six consecutive points – on baskets by Pow- ell, Gracie Jones and Addie Johnson – to stretch their lead to 17-4 with two min- utes left before halftime. A fter a basket by Jenna Heath cut Pike Central's lead to 17-6, the Lady Char- gers ended the first half on a 5 -0 scoring run – on a steal and layup by Kailee Mann and a three-point play by Powell – to take a 22-6 halftime lead. The Lady Vikings could get no closer than 13 points in the second half – at 25 -12 with 2:52 left in the third pe- riod and 30 -17 with 3:01 re- maining in the fourth quar- ter – before Lily Willis hit three of four free throw at- tempts to wrap up the scor- ing. Hickey went 3-for-11 from the floor and 2-for-6 from the free throw line while leading Pike Central with a game-high eight points and eight rebounds. "On the offensive end, Mallory Hickey had a great game," Knight said. "She was using her ball fakes and getting to the rim. She did a great job of not settling for the outside shot." Powell added seven points and had two steals while Young netted five points to go along with two assists and a team-high three steals. "Kenzie Powell played great at the point," Knight said. "She has stepped up and been able to run the of- fense for us." Johnson scored four points and Willis had three points and eight rebounds. Beck, Jones and Mann net- ted two points each. Jones also had seven rebounds. "Gracie Jones came off the bench and played the hardest she has played so far," Knight said. "She came in and grabbed some big boards for us and even went coast-to-coast a few times. She is capable of doing this all year long. I am looking for her to step up her inten- sity a bit and take over dur- ing a game." For the game, the La- dy Chargers made 13 of 55 field goal attempts – a 23.6 percent average – and hit six of 11 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 16 times. "I think some of the nerves have worn off," Knight said. "We knocked down some jumpers this game, and that helped to open up the floor so we could drive to the basket." Crawford, Hallam and Heath scored four points each to lead North Posey (0 - 1) while Destiney Notting- ham added three points. Hallam also had a game- high 12 rebounds while Crawford had three steals. For the game, the Lady Vikings made seven of 46 field goal attempts – a 15.2 percent average – and hit two of nine tries from the free throw line while turn- ing the ball over 23 times. "On the defensive side, we played great," Knight said. "North Posey could never get in a flow. My mad dog defensive girls came to play. It is really fun to watch them pressure the guards. With Lauren Young at the front, she makes it very hard for opposing teams to get into their offense. This young lady is going to be fun to watch in high school." Pike Central, which played at Washington on Tuesday, Nov. 15, will travel to South Spencer on Thurs- day, Nov. 17, before return- ing home to host Washing- ton Catholic on Monday, Nov. 21, and Haubstadt on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
