That's what The Ole Flow- er Shoppe and Mary L&R are best at offering to the public, according to owner Roger Willis. CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE IS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY Coming up this weekend is the Christmas Open House set for Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19 at both locations. Willis said there will be refresh- ments and cookies, and a free rose for the ladies. There will be drawings for Christmas wreaths on both days as well. The Ole Flower Shoppe is located at 201 South Seventh Street in Petersburg and Mary L&R Floral Design Shop, which has been open five years, is located about three miles south of Peters- burg at 1853 N. State Route 57 South. The Ole Flower Shoppe and Mary L&R can be reached during the day at 812-354-8793 and 812- 582-0905 respectively. This Friday, The Ole Flow- er Shoppe will stay open until 7 p.m. The Seventh and Walnut Street Petersburg location offers regu- lar hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays. Mary L&R in Willisville is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and also by appointment. Currently, flower shop customers can take advan- tage of a 35 percent discount off all fall items at both stores and 10 percent off any Christmas relat- ed items, according to Roger Willis. The Willis family has long-time connections to the community, lending their name to both the commu- nity and Willisville Road, which is about a quarter- mile north of the store building. Roger Willis con- verted his father's barber shop into the floral de- sign location next to Highway 57. County Road 200 North is what's on the Pike County map, but Willis- ville is better known by area residents for the east- bound county road. Willis has owned The Ole Flower Shoppe since last February and the Mary L&R location opened about five years ago. Willis said, "When I retired from teaching, we started the flower shop in Wil- lisville at the house. The main purpose was for my mother (Mary) to reconnect with friends" after her retirement from 42 years at the dry cleaners on Main Street in Petersburg. Willis said he and the staff have gotten comfort- able in both shops now. Several employees have been designing and arranging flowers for some time. Sandra Tichenor has been with The Ole Flow- er Shoppe 20 years this December. Jane Reed is sim- ilarly experienced, with 15 years at the shop. Deb- bie Truelove and Wesley "Tim" Willis also are on the staff. Tim Willis picks up products in Kentucky and Evansville and "Sandra, Jane and I do the ar- ranging," according to Roger Willis. Asked about his interest in the floral business, Willis said, "I was always been interested in it. We've done a lot over the years for the family. I think this benefits the community. It's a nice little business of- fering quantity and quality. We've seen a lot of peo- ple and enjoyed it all. It's all been good." Their spe- cialty is saddles and pots, which can also be cus- tom ordered at the Mary L&R shop in Willisville. Items for Memorial Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and other special occa- sions are available, including balloons, gifts for chil- dren and seasonal items. Fresh flowers and a long list of floral and special occasion needs can be handled by employees at The Ole Flower Shoppe in Petersburg and Mary L&R Floral Design in Willisville. From left to right, front row: Sandra Tichenor (20 years experience) and Jane Reed (15 years experience). Back Row is: Wesley "Tim" Willis and owner Roger Willis. pping Press-Dispatch WITH THE The Press-Dispatch Shopping Wednesday, November 16, 2016 C-7
