ge: 39 40 UNDER 40 2013 Jackie Dennis Age: 36 Director of Marketing and Communications Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada A n Alaska native who moved to Southern Nevada in 1994 to run track at UNLV ��� where she studied communications ��� Jackie Dennis worked in public relations in the hospitality industry prior to joining the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada in 2008 as a public information manager. She assumed her current post in 2009, and has since been committed to taking the message of efficient mass transit to the general public. Under her leadership, she has enhanced the community���s mobility through the marketing of commuter express routes ��� Centennial Express, Westcliff Airport Express, Boulder Highway Express, and Henderson & Downtown Express ��� and also recently oversaw the launch of a new, more interactive and optimized RTC website and mobile site. One of her goals moving forward is to focus on emerging technology. To reach new markets, Dennis and her team also launched an RTC Facebook page in Spanish to reach Southern Nevada���s growing Hispanic population. At the time, it was the only Spanish-language Facebook page for a transit agency outside of the Federal Transportation Commission. With more than 64 million riders annually, the RTC has two disparate customer bases, locals and tourists. ���Our customers on the Strip change every three days, but locals are loyal riders and we want to meet and exceed their needs,��� said Dennis, who is also the force behind the annual Viva Bike Vegas charity bicycle ride and supports Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson. ���We���re also focusing heavily on customer feedback. Copeland worked locally in various capacities, serving as the vice president of economic development for the Nevada Development Authority, and also as vice president of sales and marketing for a prime contractor to the Department of Defense prior to being recruited in 2008 by BDO USA (formerly BDO 20130304_VI01_I.indd 19 Seidman), which is among the largest global accounting networks, with offices in 135 countries, including 45 in the U.S. In his role as director of business development, Copeland was tasked with growing the local practice, which had a handful of clients and operated out of temporary office space. Since then, Copeland has been instrumental in creating a diverse client base that includes public- and private-sector industries such as gaming, technology, hospitality, manufacturing, not-for profit and governmental. He has also been recognized as a top revenue driver for BDO for the last several years, despite the recession. ���Whether the economy is good or bad, people still need accounting services, but the economic downturn has certainly increased competition among the top national accounting firms,��� Copeland said, adding that his current goal is to grow the local business into new vertical markets, while also focusing on his community involvement, which includes a seat on the board of the Nevada chapter of Financial Executives International, as well as the board of the Nevada chapter of the March of Dimes.
