4 0 U ND ER 4 0 2 01 3 Sean Stewart Benjamin Girardin Age: 37 Age: 35 Executive Vice President The Las Vegas chapter of the Associated General Contractors and the Nevada Contractors Association S ean Stewarts secret of success probably isnt much different than a lot of other peoples. I think its just hard work, getting out there and pushing it, he says. I dont know if I can put my finger on any one thing. Its just trying to network the most I can and trying to be effective and reliable, and Im sure thats the secret for everybody. It seems to work for me. Stewarts philosophy is equally straightforward. Its honesty and integrity. I mean, if people cant rely on what youre telling them you just cant go far. All you have is your reputation in life, Id say. The Las Vegas chapter of the Associated General Contractors and the Nevada Contractors Association are the two premiere trade groups in the state. The organizations are dedicated to protecting and serving the construction industry, and insuring the rights of its members. Stewart credits a series of mentors with much of his success. Ive had the opportunity to work with a lot of amazing people who have moved on to a lot of neat assignments. They have pushed me to think outside the box and to try and accomplish the maximum amount I can with the resources we have. One who comes to mind is Mike Pack, the president and COO of Cashman Equipment Co. He has taught me a lot about the industry and a lot about leadership. He taught me a lot about the industry were in, but also he taught me a lot about leadership; how to deal with people and how to relate to people, and to lead. H.R. 17A President 10 Nine Design Group It just seemed like a logical move, as an architect, Girardin recalled. When a general contracting company recruited him to run its design department here, he set out to hire architects but found himself herding cats, he said. It really opened my eyes, he remembered. I knew I could do a better job and do it for a more reasonable fee. It just took a couple of years to get the courage to step out. These days, his company juggles everything from projects for the medical world to Cafe Rio and Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. His experience here hasnt been easy. When his infant son passed away in 2012, he and his wife responded by giving to the community. Among those gifts: architectural services for Nevada Health Centers and donations in memory of their son routed to Nathan Adelson Hospice. Girardin and his wife, who are proud parents of a daughter born last December, have also been pioneers in the rebirth of downtown. They leased their home in the northwest and took up downtown living three and a half years ago. Now Girardin can walk to work. Theres a lot of work to be done down here, he said. G.R.D. 40 UNDER 40 2013 T he downtown Federal Justice Tower, slated for completion in December, is just one jewel among Benjamin Girardins architectural contributions to the Valley. Being a relative newcomer, with only about seven years Southern Nevada under his belt, hasnt stopped him. Hailing from the Detroit area and being a veteran of tough economic times also didnt hurt when he launched his company here in 2008, a fateful recession year. But prior to their move westward, Girardin and his wife vacationed here, and witnessed the Vegas boom. 1A Its More Than What Youve Accomplished, Its Who Youve Accomplished It For. Dr. Alexandra Walsh Pediatric Oncologist Nothing is more important than providing a bright future for our children. Dr. Walsh, no one knows this better than you. What youve accomplished so early in your career, has helped so many children persevere through the most challenging of circumstances. And you reaching your truest potential, has truly given these children an opportunity to reach theirs. All of us at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada proudly congratulate you for being recognized amongst the Top 40 Under 40. 702.688.6180 cccnevada.com 20130304_VI01_I.indd 17 2/28/13 3:02:06 PM
