Councilmen approved a $13,750 additional appro- priation from the general fund to pay the court refer- ee's salary. A fter a case sur- vey by Indiana of the Pike Court system, they deter- mined the case load was too low to fund two judge posi- tions. They previously had paid the salaries of both the Circuit Court Judge and Family Court Referee. Pike County had to pick up the bill of the court referee po- sition. They originally vot- ed to pay 50 percent of the $55,000 salary from Supple- mental Adult Probation and 50 percent from Title IV-D. However, later in 2017, they learned they could not pay the salary from Supple- mental Probation. So they voted to pay 50 percent, or $27,500, from the general fund and continue to pay 50 percent from Title IV-D in their December 12 meeting. Last month, they learned a study by Malcon, which is contracted to manage in- direct costs of the Title IV- D expenses by the county, found the Court Referee on- ly works on Title IV-D cases 29 percent of his time. Auditor Ron Wilson told the council they needed to take action on this now, be- cause it might lead to an audit. So he suggested the council now pay 75 percent or $41,250 of the $55,000 salary from the general fund and 25 percent or $13,750 from the Title IV-D funds. Councilmen voted for the $13,750 additional to fully fund the referee position. They also voted to ap- prove a transfer of $25,030 from Court Reporter to Dep- uty Court Reporter. Auditor Ron Wilson said the court has five deputy re- porters without a Court Re- porter. He said the budget was set up with a court re- porter and four deputies. So this was just a clerical move to pay them all out of the same line item. The next council meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 12. TRANSFER Continued from page 5
