Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin Minutes with the Bible by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam Continued on page 2 Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas Last week was busy as usual, but it was good week except for damaging the deck on my zero turn mow- er. I have mowed around this tree countless times but the one time I go in a different direction this root rises up like a concrete block and does my deck in. It seems as though if one person can tear something up another person can put it back to- gether again. My new A/C unit is try- ing to be a problem, but Ben- ner and company have been working with it and again it is only a mechanical thing. It will be brought under con- trol. Carl has some good guys working for his com- pany and they are smart enough to get this thing working right. Their pa- tience probably gets tried from time to time with de- manding customers and I only pray that they don't ev- er find me being a bad cus- tomer. Keep up the good work and don't get discour- aged because people count on you guys. Another one of our other good experiences was with Nola Gartin and her volun- teer Karen at PAWS as my son and his wife were al- lowed a dog try out to see if the animals they were in- terested in would be compat- ible. We picked up two pup- pies Friday afternoon. A f- ter a day and a night they decided to keep one dog and take one back on Sun- day afternoon because he There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus Christ. It is not through a religion or a particular denomination but through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life and no man cometh to the Father but by me." ( John 14:6) It is not politically correct to believe in one God who has the only true way of sal- vation. It is all right, they say, to believe in many ways and religious practices that are equally important, and all eventually lead to the same place. There is nothing really new about this age-old attitude. There are cults that have nothing to offer lost people except empty promises and a life filled with confusing false teachings. The Bible, God's inspired Word, tells us how to find the truth that sets men free. It is to search the Scriptures and listen not to man but to God and the plain teaching of His Word. It is truth that sets men free and gives hope of eternal life. We must never be satisfied with bits and pieces of truth. Many churches today share only bits and pieces of truth and promote a mar- ket driven religion. It is really a Wal- Mart approach with something to satis- fy everyone. It is not for the church to sat- isfy our interest and be our source of en- tertainment. It is for us to worship and sat- isfy God. He, and He alone, is to be wor- shiped in spirit and in truth. Only the Word made flesh has made salvation possible. It is so easy for pastors to slowly drift from truth and lead many good people into a fog of doubt, deception and confusion. It is so easy to drift away from the truth and so dif- ficult to find your way back. There is noth- ing more important, as we journey a few years on earth, than to have a relationship with Christ. Just behind me, in the supermarket check-out line, were two little boys. I no- ticed that the older one kept looking up at me and then down at his brother again sev- eral times in succession. Finally, nudging his little brother and pointing up at me, he said: "Hey, Joey, look how little you are! " Those who have seen me in the flesh know that I am not exactly small, physical- ly, and I can easily imagine that, standing next to these little fellows, I made them look small indeed! But all this pertained only to the physical, and as I left that supermarket, I began ask- ing myself: "How big are you, actually, in the sight of God? " I thought of Psalm 8:3, 4, where David mused over the same question: "When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; what is man that Thou art mindful of Him…? " Yet we are so important to the heart of God that He entered the stream of humani- ty, as it were, and became one of us in Christ, Son of God and Son of Man. Why? Hebrews 2:14,15 gives us one important reason: "…that through death [His death for our sins] He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil, and deliv- er those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." Moreover, insignificant as we are in our- selves, He would use us mightily to His glory for, according to I Cor. 1:27,28, He has "cho- sen" the "foolish," the "weak," the "base," the "despised," and those who "are not" to accomplish His purposes and to bring to naught the plans of the world's great ones. All good things come from our Father—He supplies all our needs and gives us the increase. He should be on the top of any giving list we have. "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest'" (Leviticus 23:10). Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. Ken Reeder, Pastor Karri Brock, Reporter Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and fellowship will fol- low. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers. "The Spiritual man tries all things (he examines, investigates, inquires in- to, questions, and discerns all things)" (I Corinthians 2:15). Life is not easy, and the Christian life is no excep- tion. God knows that you will have questions, doubts, and fears during the hard times. Part of finding God's purpose for you is to recog- nize that he can handle your hard questions, and that He wants you to ask them to draw you into a closer rela- tionship with Him. When difficulties come, you can pull away from God or you can choose to draw as close as you can, seeking answers to life's hard ques- tions by searching scrip- ture, praying fervently, and standing on God's promis- es. When you ask, you of- fer Him the opportunity to answer. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your presence will be deeply ap- preciated and I am sure you will enjoy the blessings of God.
