The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, May 9, 2018 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 2 just didn't seem to fit in. The puupy they adopted has made himself at home and his laid back nature is one that seems to bring ev- eryone around him peace and serenity. Nola could use a well deserved pat on the back for the hard work she puts in taking care of animals and facility. Some- one needs to step up and learn from her because if she ever gets to the place where she can't take care of things it would be bad for everyone. Our Sunday church ser- vices were brought to us by Gideon speaker John Burns and his accounts of the many testimonies con- cerning people who were touched and inspired by reading a well placed Bi- ble. The Gideon organiza- tion works with donations from churches and indi- viduals to place Bibles and testaments in places where hurting people can find hope if they will only use the Bible close to them. If you get the opportunity to help them with a donation please do, because theirs is a worthy cause. They are putting life to the com- mand to preach and teach to all people of the world. We all enjoyed listening to John and we were happy to offer our help to them. We are going to attempt to host an afternoon sing- ing at Velpen General Bap- tist Sunday, May 20 start- ing at 1:30 p.m. If you like gospel music plan to at- tend. This is short notice but we will try to gather as many singers as possible. We hope to see you there. As always be blessed and be a blessing. Pentecostal Presbyterian Nazarene Wesleyan PETERSBURG FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 801 East Walnut Petersburg 812-354-6658 We are Christians following Christ and serving Christ with compassion Worship service 9:30 a.m. EDT; Wednesday night Bi- ble study from 6 -7 p.m. and Wednesday choir practice at 7:30 p.m. Sermon series: "Com- pelled by Love." This Sunday's sermon ti- tle is: "The Most Excellent Way." Scripture reading: II Cor- inthians 5:11-15. Theme statement: The Apostle Paul is speaking about something before the judgment tribunal of Christ. A Christian moth- er's greatest desire is for all of her children to be stand- ing there and blessing her. Some call it "crazy love," but the scripture calls it: "The Most Excellent Way." There are three impor- tant signs of the most excel- lent way. 1. Pursuing the heart of God. 2. Control of the Spirit of God. 3. Clear on the Love of Christ. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Mat- thew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back in- to our lives—a peace that passes all understand- ing—He is in control. Questions regarding church events, call 812- 582-8896. Grenier, Pastor Corinna Williams, Report- er HOUSE OF MERCY CHURCH Corner of East and Porter Winslow Pastor 812-789-5229 A Church with open arms and a loving heart. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m., with Sun- day school classes at 10 :45 a.m.; Every other Tuesday night, prayer at 7 p.m. The Word of God states, "eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has there entered into the heart what God has prepared for those that love Him." If we believe the Word of God, we can see what Jesus said that the last days would be like. I believe we are there. So what God is preparing that we have not seen, heard, nor en- tered our hearts, I believe is a harvest of souls like nev- er seen and the working of miracles, signs and wonders for those that love Him. Do you love Him? Ask Him into your heart. Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted, and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals. Also, pray about the elections. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into con- tact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. God's servant and friend to humanity, George Bruce, Pastor SOMETHING NEWSWORTHY? Give us a call: 812-354-8500 MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m.; Youth group Monday evening at 6 p.m. Come vis- it us, our doors are always open to you. "Each day holds a sur- prise," wrote Henri Nouwen. "But only if we expect it, we can see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy." Wait - sorrow as a sur- prise? And I'm not to fear it? Aren't surprises supposed to be happy things? What does Nouwen mean? He continues: "It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can wel- come new friends and cele- brate more fully our shared humanity." And I remember, too, the psalmist's words: The LORD is near to the bro- kenhearted" (Psalm 34:18). Maybe that's the surprise in our sorrow: that when we ache, as when we cele- brate, God is there - in new friends, in shared humanity. Surprise! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Mother's love There is no love, like a mother's love, no stronger bond on earth...like the pre- cious bond that comes from God, to a mother, when she gives birth. A mother's love is forever strong, never changing for all time...and when her chil- dren need her most, a moth- er's love will shine. God bless these special mothers, God bless them ev- ery one...for all the tears and heartache, and for the spe- cial work they've done. When her days on earth are over, a mother's love lives on...through many gen- erations, with God's bless- ings on each one. Be thankful for our moth- ers, for they love with a high- er love...from the power God has given, and the strength from up above. Happy Mother's Day. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
