The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, November 29, 2017 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued on page 5 Continued from page 2 it without even asking Him for our needs. It sure has be- come a give-me society with- out even a thought of giving back to God. There are so many who have needs and it seems that when God places it on our hearts to help we start making excuses. It is time for excuses to end . Help when you can to eliminate the needs without giving aid to the root cause. You don't have to give money but giv- ing Somebody's Place a do- nation or a donation to one of the many charitable or- ganizations in our commu- nity is a very giving gift to the needy and it makes our God happy to see His people helped. Our Sunday message con- cerned witnessing with our lives and voices when the op- portunity arises. John the Baptist would have looked to us like a wild man, but he had a simple message and that was to repent and be baptized. It still works today if you will just ask for forgive- ness and accept God's grace. A fter becoming a Christian, put faith to work for you and fill your daily life with even the simplest prayers. Learn what you can about being a Christian and then put what you have learned to work for God in your daily walk. Well enough for now so fill your day with prayer and put yourself to work for God and be blessed and be a blessing. Pentecostal GOSPEL CENTER CHURCH Independent Baptist Church 420 E. Jesus has cleared the way by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God. The "cur- tain" into God's presence is his body. So let's do it—full of belief, confident that we're presentable inside and out. Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let's see how inven- tive we can be in encour- aging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping to- gether as some do but spur- ring each other on, especial- ly as we see the big Day ap- proaching—Hebrews 10 :19, 22 MSG. • Church work day on Sat- urday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. We will also be decorating for Christmas and have a car- ry-in soup lunch. • Out of the Box Ladies Ministry annual Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Bring an inex- pensive wrapped ornament for the gift game and an ap- petizer or dessert to share. This Sunday's sermon will be titled "Mary's Reaction." Scripture reading from Luke 1:30 -35. Theme statement: In the dialogue that took place be- tween Mary and the An- gel Gabriel, the angel told her that she was "highly fa- vored." Mary was part of the faithful remnant in Isra- el who understood that with God nothing is impossible. At once, when Mary heard the Good News she ran off to share it with someone. There are three life changing lessons in Mary's Reaction: 1. Mary was troubled. 2. Mary made a decision. 3. Mary shared the Good News in a song. Common sense tells us that the last thing we should do in a time of suffering is think of it as glorious, but the word tells us we must. It seems that all we want to do is gripe and complain when we struggle, but even dur- ing those times, we must still thank and praise God. I have had struggles in my life when it felt like it was point- less to continue on, but I fi- nally stopped and looked at all the blessings around me and realized just how bad things really could be. Per- severance is a must have skill in the Christian walk because our enemy is re- lentless. He will never stop coming. I will always think of Chief Dan George in " The Outlaw Josey Wales" when a struggle comes my way, and I "endeavor to perse- vere." God , we know times of struggle are headed our way, but let us not forget that You are in control of our lives. This Sunday after worship service we will be having our board and society meet- ing and joint Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Grenier, Pastor Corinna Williams, Report- er children's service at 6 p.m.; evening worship at 6 p.m. and Wednesday Bible study at 6 p.m. This time of year begins a time of stress and pressure for many. When we look at Luke 10 :38 -42, we can see ways to keep stress at a minimum. We must remem- ber our limits; relationships and fellowship are more im- portant than perfection. Choose to do what is better, as Jesus encouraged Mar- tha. Last, what is most im- portant is what will last. May we all enjoy this blessed Ad- vent season and share Jesus with others. This is what Paul told Timothy in I Timothy 6:11. This is not a physical fight but a spiritual fight. Ephe- sians 6:10 -17 states that we are to put on the whole ar- mor of God for we fight not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places. It is time for the Word of God to be put in us, pray and fast, and see the change that will come to our great country. Will you pay the price? Gift-giving solutions Trying to find gifts for cer- tain people - or letting others know what you want - can be quite challenging. A fter all, most of us don't need any- thing. Realizing that the best gifts aren't material items offers a new perspective on giving and receiving. Con- sider these insights from au- thor Charles Swindoll: "Some gifts you can give this Christmas are beyond monetary value: Mend a quarrel, dismiss suspicion, tell someone 'I love you.' Give something away - anon- ymously. Forgive someone who has treated you wrong. Turn away wrath with a soft answer. Visit someone in a nursing home. Apologize if you were wrong. Be espe- cially kind to someone with whom you work. Give as God gave to you in Christ, with- out obligation, or announce- ment, or reservation, or hy- pocrisy."
