No matter where you live. Chief Deputy Sheriff Kent Johnson is announcing he will be running for Sheriff of Pike County. "I've served the people of Pike County for the last 16 years. It is my honor to an- nounce that I will be running for Sheriff of Pike County in the 2018 election. A lifelong resident of Pike County, he graduated from Pike Central in 1988. He then served 10 years in the United States Navy. "Dur- ing my time as a proud mem- ber of the military, I was in- volved in Desert Storm/ Shield, and was a Military Policeman and K-9 Handler for the last six years of my enlistment." In 1991, Johnson married Lori (Brown) Johnson. Lo- ri is the Administrator for Memorial Outpatient Sur- gery Center in Jasper. She is also a lifelong resident of Pike County; graduating from Pike Central in 1990. Lori received her nursing degree from Vincennes Uni- versity. "We have two wonderful children," said Johnson. Beau, 23, who also served four years in the Navy, is currently a Corrections Offi- cer for the Knox County Se- curity Center. He married Lauryn (Davis) Johnson, 22, who is a bank teller at the Pe- tersburg branch of the Ger- man American Bank. Laney is an eighth grad- er at Pike Central Middle School, where she partici- pates in cross country. In 2002, Johnson began working as a Jail Officer for the Pike County Sheriff's of- fice. The following year, he was hired by the City of Pe- tersburg as an officer for their police department. During this time, he gradu- ated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He has worked the past 13 years for the Pike County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy; and most recently as Chief Deputy. "One of the greatest joys I have experienced while working for Pike County has been as a DARE instructor. Interacting with children in the community is a bless- ing that I cherish. Helping to teach and encourage the next generation can only make our community stron- ger," said Johnson. He added, "Attending New Sheriff's School in 2014 helped give me experience in day-to-day operations and administrative duties to help prepare me for the office of Sheriff. This will enable a seamless transition to the position if I am fortunate enough to be elected." "I would like the Pike County Sheriff's office to keep moving forward in a positive direction. Running a motivated office with dig- nity and integrity is essen- tial for the future," said John- son. Kent Johnson announces candidacy for Sheriff's race
