For additional obituaries, see page D-9 Obituaries Paving resumes in Petersburg Paving crews were back in Petersburg trying to finish up the paving projects they abandoned three weeks ago. Assistant Superintendent Josh Byrd, of the Pike County Highway Department, said they had to quit paving after a storm dropped 11 inches of rain on southern Pike County. The large volume of water washed out numerous culverts, left several roads closed and some residents with no way out. Crews worked to replace those culverts and reopen those roads, finally being able to return to paving in Petersburg on Monday. Above: they are paving a section of Walnut St. erans to take part and attend both the parade and ceremony. Brian K. Russell, of Winslow, had pleaded guilty to the charges. He ad- mitted to pushing Rachel Jones Boar- man, causing injury to her. Jones was hospitalized on May 13, 2016, with head injuries. Six days later she died. Pike County police began investigat- ing the case prior to her death after hospital officials notified them her in- juries were consistent with a battery. Pike County Prosecutor Darrin Mc- Donald said police did a murder inves- tigation, but pathologists were never able to establish that the battery six days prior had caused her death. On Tuesday, Russell appeared in Pike Circuit Court after pleading guilty to the charges. He received a sentence of two and one half years in the Pike County Security Center, which was suspended to probation. According to stipulations of the sen- tence, Russell must not commit anoth- er criminal offense while on probation and he must complete a domestic bat- tery intervention course. During the hearing, McDonald read a letter from Boarman's family. Part of the letter stated, "You might have convinced yourself you weren't the cause of her death, but one thing you did admit to is, you beat her the last few days of her life. We let you have the easy way out, but in time you will answer and get the punishment you deserve."
