Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday SEE THE IN LOVING MEMORY PAGE on the next page ALLEEN WIGGS SCANLON Alleen Wiggs Scanlon entered into her heavenly home on Saturday, May 20, 2017. She was born July 21, 1924, at Littles, Ind., five miles from Petersburg. At the age of 13, she and her parents moved to Muncie, where she attended Muncie Central High School and graduated in 1941 at age 17. A fter graduation, she and her parents moved to New Albany. In 1943, she met Thomas E. Scanlon and they were married in 1944. Alleen's first employment in New Albany was with Judge D. Kirke Hedden. Later, she became secretary for John A. Cody, Jr. (this was home of Justice Sherman Minton) for 7 years. Years later, she became secretary for two Methodist District Superin- tendents for 12 years, Rev. Kenneth Forbes and Rev. Merlin Schwein. She was a 70 -plus year member of Cen- tenary United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was president of United Methodist Women for eight years. She greatly enjoyed chil- dren's Bible School held at Centenary for many years. Alleen was Past Regent of Pi- ankeshaw Chapter of DAR and 70 -plus year member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of the Cote- rie Club of New Albany. Al- leen was the author of sev- eral published books of po- etry and was nominated for Poet Laureate of Indiana. These endeavors gave her great joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Scanlon; and grandson, Drew Thomas Miller. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Rebec- ca ( John) Dedman; grand- daughter, Carrie Eliza- beth (Tony) Dunham; two great-granddaugh- ters, Elizabeth Brooke ( John) Sparks and MaKay- la Rebecca Ritchey; and one great-grandson, Cody Thomas Ritchey. It was her wish to have a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel, with private burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany. JEAN M. WILLIS Jean M. Willis, 88, of In- dianapolis, entered rest on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. She was born on March 31, 1929, in Winslow to Pren- tis and Nellie Selby. She is survived by her husband, Burtis Willis, of Indianapolis; son, Eugene (Ginger) Willis, of Indianap- olis; daughters, Sandra Nulf and Peggy (Ronald) Marks, both of Springhill, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private graveside ser- vices were Thursday, May 18,2017, at Williams Ceme- tery near Oakland City. Lamb-Basham Memorial is assisting the family with services. Family and friends may send messages of com- fort to www.lambbasham. com. ARTHUR DALE BECK Arthur "Art" Dale Beck, 93, of Washington, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side. He was born December 30, 1923, in Petersburg, to Walter and Ethel (Gross) Beck. He was a lifelong mem- ber of the American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge. Arthur was married to Mildred L. (Mahan) Beck for 32 years; she passed away May 15, 2013. He was also preceded in death by brothers, William, Harold and Walter Beck, Jr.; and sister, Hilda Harrell. He is survived by his chil- dren, Barry (Tina) Beck, of Cape Coral, Fla., Antho- ny (Susan) Beck, Suzanne Shipley and Dawn Beck, all of Indianapolis; sev- en grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Harris Funeral Home in Pe- tersburg, with Rev. Ronald Ficklin officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cem- etery in Washington. CLETUS R AY KOELLING Cletus Ray Koelling, 69, of Somerville, entered rest on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Deaconess Gateway Hospi- tal in Newburgh. He was born on Sept. 3, 1947, in Evansville to Carl and Myrl (Tharp) Koelling. Cletus had worked sever- al years at Elberfeld Block Company, and retired from A zteca Milling in Evans- ville. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Brenda (Bell) Koelling; daughter, Lori (Randy) Hollander, of Mack- ey; brother, Carl Delbert (Patty) Koelling, of Somer- ville; sister Mary (Robert) Frye, of Patoka; two grand- children; one great-grand- child and several nieces and nephews. Services were at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Lamb-Basham Me- morial Chapel, with burial in Somerville Cemetery. Rev. Kirk Horstmeyer officiated.
