Andy Heuring photo White tosses 4-hitter in 6-3 win Senior Colton White tossed a four-hitter as the Pike Central High School team defeated visiting Te- cumseh 6 -3 on Wednesday, May 17. White allowed three runs – only one of which was earned – while walking one and striking out nine as the Chargers improved to 10 -11 overall and 2-5 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Pike Central took a 1- 0 lead in the first inning, when senior centerfielder Colton O'Neal led off with a double and scored on a single by White. A fter White advanced to second on a ground-out by senior shortstop Chase Davis, a wild pickoff at- tempt by Tecumseh pitcher Dustin Dupont allowed him to move over to third base. White then scored on a passed ball, giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead. The Braves, who fell to 10 -15 overall and 3-6 in the PAC, rallied in the second inning to close to within 2-1. A fter catcher Ethan Hahn led off with a double, one out later, leftfielder Gavin Oxley hit a grounder to Pike Central third baseman Jo- ey Church, who threw Ox- ley out as Hahn advanced to third base. However, a bad throw by Chargers senior first base- man Kane Osgatharp al- lowed Hahn to score. Pike Central would add to its lead in the third inning when sophomore designat- ed hitter Braxton Rice belt- ed a two-run double – scor- ing White and Davis, who had led off the inning by drawing back-to-back walks – to make the score 4-1. With two outs, Rice would score an unearned run when Tecumseh cen- terfielder Steven Molinet dropped a fly ball by Os- gatharp, extending the Chargers' lead to 5 -1. The Braves would score single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before Pike Central tallied the game's final run – on a two-out, run-scoring single by O'Ne- al – to wrap up the scoring. O'Neal went 2-for-4 with a double, scored one run and drove in two. Rice went 1-for-3 with a double, scored on run and drove in two. White went 1-for-3 with a walk, scored two runs and drove in one. Pike Central, which fell to 11-13 overall and 2-6 in the PAC with an 8 -1 loss at South Spencer on Thurs- day, May 18, closed out the regular season with a home game against Evansville Bosse on Tuesday, May 23.
