Right: In our 8th grade social studies class, we read Mark Twain's "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." To coincide with the story and the actual Calavaras Frog jump that is taking place this week in California, the students were allowed to bring in there own frogs they caught for a little friendly competition. Right and Far Right: Retired PCSC teach- er Denise Stewart visit- ed PCMS 6th grade stu- dents and wowed them with her "far out" col- lection of space objects. She discussed meteor- ites and showed them several samples from her personal collection. Stu- dents got to see and pass around pictures, meteor- ites and even other ob- jects, like jewelry made from meteorites and me- teorite impacts. The "Scoop on the Scope" Right: The PCMS 6th graders have been busy learning about space ob- jects visible through a telescope and microscop- ic objects visible with a microscope. Mrs. Weis- man's science classes re- cently did a solar system project where students were able to choose a 3D physical model, Google slides, or essay to pres- ent. Students were also learning the parts of the microscope, how to use the microscope and how to prepare slides for a mi- croscope unit. Plant and animal cell parts were al- so covered. Today Graduation ............... May 27 ..... 3 days INFORMATION OF INTEREST • Senior students are be- ing asked to provide pic- tures for use in the grad- uation ceremony. Each senior should bring one senior picture and one ba- by shot to Ms. Nossett as soon as possible. Student names should be provided on the back of the respec- tive picture. • Through a grant from Alcoa, Ivy Tech is offering an opportunity for high school students who are ju- niors and seniors to earn up to six college credits during the summer at no cost. This is to allow for preparations for the 2017 graduation ceremony to be conducted effectively. • The Riley Dance Mar- athon has been canceled for this year due to sched- uling conflicts with other events. • Wood Memorial High School is planning on launching a Bass Fishing Team in the fall. A coach has been identified and we would like to now gain in- put on those students who may be interested in tak- ing part in the program. If you are interested, please stop by the high school of- fice and give us your name. An organizational meeting will be held after the start of the 2017-2018 school year. GRADUATION PRACTICE Graduation practice will take place on Wednesday, May 24, beginning with an 8 a.m. breakfast in the cafeteria. Immediately fol- lowing, students will move to the gymnasium to walk through the details of Sat- urday's graduation cere- mony. The practice will last as long as necessary to ensure a professional program, befitting our stu- dents, on Saturday. The seniors will conduct one final activity prior to enjoying pizza for lunch. Following this, they will be free to go. SUMMER SCHOOL SCHEDULE Summer school will run as follows: May 30 – June 23, 2017, Monday th- ru Thursday, week 1, 8:30 a.m. – noon, weeks 2 – 4, 8 a.m. – noon. We will offer the follow- ing classes: Junior High School Math, Junior High School English, Physical Education I ( for incoming Freshmen), Credit Recov- ery Classes, High School Courses (must be ap- proved). The Wood Memo- rial student services team will be making contact with students and parents in the upcoming weeks.
