Patoka Valley Quilt January meeting The January meeting of the Patoka Valley Quilt Guild took place on January 3, in the Ferdinand Community Center with President Me- lissa ruschau presiding. The treasurer's report was given. sherri Hilgeman reminded members of the scheduled Open sewing dates in 2023, which included February 16 -18 and March 16 -18. she also informed members of the following dates: IHQs in Bloomington on March 2-4, Heritage days at the dubois County Museum on april 4-6, and the Paducah Quilt show on april 26 -29. For the retreat committee, Becky Fuller talked about several state parks that she is considering for an early re- treat. nancy Merkel remind- ed members that the first st. Meinrad retreat would be in July, and she announced that retreats sponsored by Lora nale this year includ- ed Clifty Falls in March and santa Claus the first week in november. Hospitality reported 20 members present. Jane Heichelbech reported 49 small donation quilts were turned in at the december meeting. In new business, dona- tions were approved for the community center and the library for the use of those facilities. Quilt labels for do- nation quilts was discussed. Batting scraps of 6" or wider were requested. Bring scraps to the next meeting. The program, an improv alphabet quilt, was given by Marge Hevron. Members were given a fabric kit to make a letter block. samples were shown. Blocks are due at the March meeting. The next guild meeting will be February 7. Bring straight pins for the program. Winslow resident Tina Horn receives LCM Award Tina Horn was named the recipient of the Little Compa- ny of Mary award at Memo- rial Hospital and Health Care Center. The LCM award is given annually to an employ- ee nominated by co-workers and chosen from a group of finalists by the hospital's Mis- sion Committee. nominees for this award demonstrate Memorial Hospital's mission and core values through their daily work. Horn works in environ- mental services and has worked at Memorial Hospital for 31 years. Horn has been described as a kind, caring, compassionate and honest person in all her interactions with others, and as someone who will do whatever it takes for her family as well as her hospital family. she is the first to volunteer to come in early, stay over, and cov- er absences. Horn resides in Winslow, and says she loves working at Memorial Hospital.
