Winslow Patoka river should have risen to half or ¾ with the snowfall we had be- fore Christmas that has melted, then a 2-day rainfall of 1.1 inches before the end of the year and then another 2-day rain- fall of 1.4 inches. Our temps ranged from the 40s to the low 60s and our nights were in the 40s and 50s, winds had gusts of up to 60 mph that blew a big limb out of Grandma's tree. a chainsaw was used. We also had fog for several nights and into the morning hours, some were dense. The neighborhood animals are seen this week. The squir- rel was seen sitting on a log by the normulance, dogs, cats, and horse who have to exer- cise their legs. This bird sing- ing one morning thought it was spring. Mom's Christmas cac- tus has two blooms of pink with more buds. I got out of the house, final- ly, and saw that several houses still have their decorations up and they are great as they light up that area. as you travel the streets in Winslow be careful of all the potholes on union street where the worst are, you can't even dodge them from Main to Collins, so be careful. Lots of music heard as norm serenades me with his songs and they are pleasing to the listen- ing ear. I have a cousin who has taken up guitar playing and he had bought a guitar to learn to play and now he has two guitars, has one in a closet that he for- got about. We hope your new year's eve and into the 2023 new year was as exciting as ours was. We start- ed our new years eve on Friday night with a toast with our favor- ite drink and since we had no plans to get out we had a week- end to relax and enjoy each oth- er's company. saturday, we fixed the cab- bage in our cast iron so I could have cabbage to eat after the strike of midnight. I have to eat the cooked cabbage instead of the raw, since I have no teeth. We snacked on polish sausage and crackers with a toast of drink every 1 to 2 hours. some of the T V channels like 44 had come in so we watched the ball drop in Times square and in the neighborhood, we were sur- prised to hear a great big bang of fireworks that almost sound- ed like a cannon. We kissed and said Happy new year, I love you and then ate some cabbage to keep the tradition going. On sunday the new year of 2023 we had our sunday blue- berry pancakes and later for din- ner and supper we had cabbage with blackeyed peas and a pork chop. We should have health and wealth because we had enough to eat for two more days where it tasted better each day. Laura thought she could get to work in her own car but the car had a different time with the bat- tery light on again, so her Pop came to her rescue again for a few days until a new belt was put on by one of her neighbors, so she may soon drive her car again to finish out the week with- out any more trouble. Our winter days are here again to bring in our regular temps of 40s to 30s so stay warm in your cozy house and if you need to get outside, take it easy in the wet soaked spots and the mud- dy places in your yard. May this year be your greatest year with happiness to share as you enjoy life with family and friends. as the lights begin to dim this week, please keep an eye on your family and friends, slow down and see all the wonders in your area, wear your mask in crowds and inside a crowded place, stop for those school buses, and as al- ways smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
