"As the chamber of com- merce, we want to help our lo- cal businesses to succeed, and we have heard from the com- munity that they would like to see something like the Holly Walk come back. When we heard about all of the events Dec. 3 and the addition of the ice-skating rink, we thought it would be the perfect time to try to kick off a shop local event." Said Stephanie Gas- kins-McGuire, the president of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce. "The number of business- es interested in participat- ing was outstanding" said Gaskins-McGuire. The twen- ty-five businesses that par- ticipated were Calorita, Bea- con of Light, 57 Liquors, Little Jon's Bait Shop, The Ole Flow- er Shoppe, Fish Hut, Marge's Hallmark, Otwell Mercan- tile, 423 Smokehouse, Silk Designs, Winslow Liquors, Daugherity Vendor Mall, Pe- tersburg Hardware, Igloo, Bath Bombs, Friends, Chi- na Wok, Bee You Boutique, Elmer Buchta Tech Center, Sullivan's Grocery, Mi Patio, Caddy Shack, The Village Inn, Mikels Graphics, and Randy's Café. Most of the participants lent a hand in donating to the prize gift baskets which val- ued well over $700 in value. Shoppers were able to join in the fun by grabbing a bingo card at any of the participat- ing business locations. Mak- ing a purchase with the par- ticipants earned a stamp on the bingo card. Getting five stamps in the same row hor- izontally, vertically, or diago- nally earned a bingo in which the sheet would be turned in for a chance to win one of the 5 baskets. The bingo challenge ran from December 3rd to December 17th. The drawing was held on December 21st. The winners of this years Christmas Bingo Challenge were Carla Willis, Kim Cum- mins, Rhonda Robinette, Men- dy Ross, and Gordan Phillips. Gordan Phillips commented on Facebook," Thank you to the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and its members for putting together such an awesome basket! We will definitely enjoy every bit of it! #shopsmallwinbig". Kim Cummins said, "Christmas Bingo was fun and I didn't know that Beacon of Light existed before this".
