Winslow Patoka River was half full but we got in a two-day total of 2.80 inches of rain to bring the river up but not too much from the halfway mark. There is snow coming before Christmas and the amount we are to have isn't what we want to travel in. Some towns may have delays on expressways. Oh my, that's not good! Temps started in the high 40s then it started to drop into the low 30s with winds that blew out more limbs in Grandma's tree. We also had snow flurries at night, but two days in the af- ternoon, and sometimes you had to look really close to see the flakes. Winter is here and so are the temps of 0 or the teens with a wind chill of frig- id coldness. More and more trees in bay windows, lights of colors all around the rooftops, items set in yards that light up or stuck in the group, blow ups of all kinds, and they all made me smile as I looked on both sides of the road. You could hear me say, "oh, look at that one! I like that one and that one! " We drove to park in Wash- ington and they have several more items and more trees lit. A dragon in the lake, a Santa in a boat by the island. Every- thing is almost lit up in some type of lights. We came back into the county to Hornady Park where Santa and Mrs. Claus took do- nations and handed us a can- dy cane. Santa knows every- one and called Norm by name. There are new items set up in every section of the park. Dancing children by a Christ- mas tree, fisherman, paddle- boat, soldiers, and more lit up items set out for all to enjoy. Bluff and North streets have blowups with a Minion, Santa and reindeer and more. The Brownstown area and East End area have many yards that are worth seeing as you trav- el through town. We have sev- en wreaths with blue, red, and green lights on Main Street and they look great. One has a white lantern. On a post near the Igloo is a banner for the holiday season. The post of- fice has a big wreath in lights and a Christmas tree inside. A house on Beardsley and house on Mariah have decorations in front, sides, and back yards. Laura had just gotten back to work from a baby leave and her week of work was one more night when her car de- cided it would cause trouble. It left her stranded at work but now she had to get a ride home. She got home from her Pop and as she slept or tried to, her car was towed by Schell Towing and Sims Auto Repair will work on it to run again. It happened to be 4 parts to order and then put back into the car so she can have wheels again. We are so grate- ful to know stars like Brandon Schell and Mark and Cheryl Sims and their fantastic job they do to help out when a per- son needs that help. Thanks a whole bunch. Our cousin had bought a guitar but he needed some help in making beautiful mu- sic, so Norm gave him a crash course in what he has learned and hopes it wasn't too con- fusing. When you think that is where your fingers go, you may have it right or one fin- ger isn't on the right string. But you still practice and prac- tice until you get it right or re- ally close. Well, Christmas hasn't come yet but our hope is that your Christmas with family and friends was enjoyable as everyone sat down at the ta- ble to eat all that tasty foods, see the little ones get excit- ed to see what is beneath that wrapping paper and then play with the box. We also wish everyone a Happy New Years of 2023. This past year had its ups and downs but we got through it all, with the COVID and the new one that effects the late fall began and the masks and distance was prac- ticed again. Winslow got to hold their events all year and I believe it helped out everyone to mingle again and have fun. Welcome to our New Town Council. The lights are about to dim for this week but please keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the won- ders in your area, wear your mask and distance for the safe- ty of others, look at the wooly worms, do you see black, lots of brown, and a touch of black? Norm just found ours. Then as always smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Barbara Sweet 2023 Call for your auction needs.
