Titans overcome four turnovers to win 32-14 at Heritage Hills By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern was able to do pretty much anything they wanted against Heritage Hills, except hold onto the ball. The Titans dominated Heritage Hills, jumping out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter that could have been bigger except for two early fumbles. Tanner Boyd completed 18 of 21 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while Devan Roberts scored four touch- downs, two by land and two by air. Things were going Gibson Southern's way early. On the third play of the game, Boyd connected with Cole McKee for a 37-yard gain. Three plays later Roberts took a hand-off and started up the middle. He found a wall of defenders, but was able to bounce it outside, where ran past two defenders near the line of scrimmage and evaded the secondar y for a 31-yard touchdown. It gave Gibson Southern a 6-0 lead. The PAT was blocked. When Heritage Hills got the ball they didn't hang on to it ver y long. On their second play they fumbled and Gibson Southern recovered at the Heritage Hills 21. Gibson Southern gave it right back when Boyd ran to the five, but when he was hit the ball came out and Heritage Hills recovered. But Heritage Hills fumbled two plays later and TJ Lewis recovered it at the six. Roberts took it into the end zone on the second tr y for a 12-0 lead 6:55 still left in the first quarter. Again the PAT was blocked. Heritage Hills was able to move the ball, picking up two first downs to their own 44- yard line, where on first down Beau Rose and Luke Foster dropped Skyler Staples for a one-yard gain. The Patriots then fumbled under pressure with Titan de- fenders in the backfield . They recovered but lost six yards. Now facing third and 14, Lewis blew up a bubble screen for a one yard loss to force a punt. Gibson Southern took over at their 38-yard line. On first down Boyd hit McKee for 16 yards down the sideline. A play later Roberts floated out of the backfield and Boyd hit him near the sideline. See WIN on page 6 Lady Titan golf advances to state finals By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's girls golf team will play in the state finals at Prairie View in Indianapolis for only the second time in school histor y. It took ever y player and literally ever y putt they made on Saturday at Countr y Oaks in Montgomer y to make it to Indianapolis. The Lady Titans tied Jasper for third place with a team 355. In high school golf, each team has five players and the four best scores count toward the team score. Since Gibson Southern and Jasper tied at 355, the tiebreaker is the fifth player's score.
