blew past the Patriot defensive backfield for a 43-yard touch- down. It gave the Titans an 18-0 lead with 1:49 in the first quarter. Again the PAT was blocked. Titan freshman defensive lineman Brody Klem, on third down for the Patriots, charged into the backfield and sacked Camden Schipp for an 11-yard loss forcing a punt with 11:15 left in the second quarter. Gibson Southern drove the ball downfield to the Patriot 17, but another fumble gave it back to Heritage Hills, who finally capitalized on the mistake. They plodded 88 yards in 14 plays that took almost seven minutes off the clock before Braydon Durham scored from 14 yards out to make it 18-7 with 1:37 left in the half. The Titans took over at the 27 and quickly moved the ball across midfield with a 26-yard pass to Isaac O'Neal that got them to the Patriot 45-yard line. A couple of plays later Boyd ran for 18 yards. A roughing-the-passer call against Heritage Hills on the next play put the Titans on the 12-yard line with 26 seconds left in the half. But with 14 seconds left Gib- son Southern again fumbled away another scoring chance and the half ended, 18-7. Gibson Southern's defense put the offense in a great po- sition to start the second half, just when they needed it most. The Titans did not score in the second quarter as fumbles plagued them. Gibson Southern had to kick off to Heritage Hills, that started their offensive posses- sion at the 35-yard line. The Titan defense was fired up, dropping Breden Chew for a two-yard loss on first down followed by a one-yard run. On third down Klem raced into the backfield and dropped the quarterback for a nine- yard loss forcing them to punt at fourth and 20. The snap was low and punt- er Dakota Boerste dropped it. When he tried to get it off, Ti- tan Michael Herren got a hand on it. The punt went straight up when it hit the ground. Ti- tans and Patriots players had at least two skirmishes with the ball popping out of both of them before Herren finally recovered it for the Titans at the Heritage Hills five. Three plays later Roberts scored his fourth touchdown of the night, making it 25-7 with 8:43 left in the third. "I thought our defense played phenomenally all night. We had some short fields and had some tough penalties go against us and we still got stops," said Hart. Heritage Hills got on the board again early in the fourth quarter with a drive that started late in the third quarter on an interception that gave the Patri- ots the ball on the Titan 42-yard line. It was kept alive by a pass interference call on a third-and- eight play, which put the Patri- ots at the nine-yard line. They scored on a one-yard run by Skyler Staples with 8:37 left in the game to make it 25-14. Gibson Southern answered immediately with a 13-play, 81- yard drive that benefited from two 15-yard penalties on Her- itage Hills for pass interfer- ence and a personal foul. It was capped by a 25-yard pass from Boyd to Herren along the sideline on third -and-six. Herren walked a tightrope to pull the pass in and stay inbounds before speeding away from the de- fenders. The touchdown made it 32-14 with 2:54 to scuttle any thoughts of a Patriot come- back. Hart lamented the num- ber of turnovers, but praised the overall play of the Titans. "I thought we played pretty well, other than our turnovers. They (HH) are a good football team. When you let teams hang around, bad things are going to happen. We have to clean things up, but to have the turnovers we had and to be able to come in here and beat these guys says a lot. It is hard to come here and win," said Hart.
