Freshman football pounds Southridge 42-8 By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Souther n's fresh- man football team easily beat PAC foe Southridge 42-8 last Thursday. A highlight of the game was a 99-yard touchdown pass. A Colin Scherer r un and a Cam Tr uxal sideline catch put the T itans in the red zone for the first time on their first possession. Gunner Alexander con- nected with Toby Pullum on a 20-yard touchdown recep- tion. The two-point conver- sion attempt failed. Southridge was forced to punt again. The Raider punt was downed inside the one- yard line setting up a long field for the T itans. It didn't matter. Alexan- der dropped back and threw a bomb to Pullum. The pass was juggled and caught by Pullum, who took the pass 99 yards for another T itan score. Maverick Deputy would make his first catch of the year on the two- point conversion play giving GS a 14-0 lead. After great coverage on the kickof f, Maverick Depu- ty sacked the Raider quar ter- back on the next play from scrimmage leading to a punt. T itan Blake Ulm had a bone cr ushing block on a screen pass that spr ung Noah Kuester open. He was finally tackled inside the Raider five-yard line. Alex- ander finished the T itans' third of fensive drive with a shor t touchdown r un. The two-point conversion failed making it 20-0. Bobby Robinson's kick- of f again was a success in pinning Southridge deep in their own ter ritor y. Jax Coleman recovered a Southridge fumble giving the T itans great field posi- tion. After weaving through a r ushing defender and stepping up in the pocket, Gunner Alexander threw his third touchdown of the game. Noah Kuester was found all alone across the middle of the field. Another great block, this time by Cam Tr uxal, would help Kuester glide into the end zone. Lloyd Sellers caught the two-point attempt putting the score 28-0. Just before the half, Alex- ander scored another r ush- ing touchdown and Pullum caught a pass for the two- point conversion to give the T itans a 36-0 lead. Gibson Souther n wast- ed no time getting star ted in the second half. On the first drive of the half, Colin Scherer got things going with a 40-yard r un. An Austin Bur ns block and a pancake block by Toby Pullum helped Lloyd Sellers take a toss for a 45- yard score. Southridge would score their lone touchdown late in the game making the final 42-8. "Great blocking from Keaton Richardville, Noah Ott, Landon Gambrel, Blake Ulm, Bobby Robinson and Kemper Pennington helped create huge r unning lanes all night," said Freshman Coach Chandler McKee. "On the defensive side of the ball, Kayden Cun- ningham, R yan Spink and Maverick Deputy wreaked havoc in the Southridge backfield. T ight pass cover- age by Wyatt Finney and T y Smith held the Raiders to only one completion," said McKee. The Freshman T itans will be back in action next Thursday as they put their 4-0 record to the test and travel to conference oppo- nent Boonville.
