South Gibson Star-Times Tuesday, September 27, 2022 B-7 Volleyball drops two matches to strong opponents By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's volley- ball team had a tough week as they lost two competitive matches to really strong op- ponents. "Last week was tough," said Titan volleyball coach Emily Schmitt. On Thursday night the girls fell 3-1 to Evansville North. In the opening game the Huskies won 25-18. But the Lady Titans rallied for a 25-17 win in the second game. Then North turned around the mo- mentum to win the third and fourth games 25-16 and 25-13. Evansville North is 12-8 on the season and 4-1 in South- ern Indiana Athletic Confer- ence play. "I thought we would hang with North better than we did...that was a difficult one for us. It just wasn't our night. The girls were battling but nothing was falling into place. I told the girls to shake it off. Even professional athletes have off-nights," said Schmitt. On Tuesday night the Ti- tans played Tecumseh and lost 3-0. Tecumseh is 22-2 on the season and 9-0 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. They showed why, against the Lady Titans. Tecumseh won the first game 25-19, the second 25-12 and in the third game it was 25-22. The Lady Titans are 11-8 overall and 5-2 in the PAC. "Tecumseh is a great team...they have wonderful ball control, which allows them to control the tempo of the game. They only have one loss so we knew it was going to be a battle going in," said Schmitt. The Titans have another busy week as they played South Spencer on Monday, Mt. Vernon on Tuesday and Princeton on Thursday. "We need to stay focused and hungr y. Sectional is right around the corner," said Schmitt. Young returns after WNBA title win Jackie Young threw candy from the top of a firetruck as she toured the Princeton Square Saturday afternoon after the former Princeton Tiger was key in her Las Vegas WNBA team winning a WNBA title, her first title in professional basketball. The parade brought out countless young people, friends, family and fans who wanted to congratulate young on her victor y. Tennis seniors Boys played Boonville on senior night last week and beat them 5-0. All five seniors on the tennis team played varsity at Senior Night including Wyatt Kruse, Carter Craw- ford, Ezra Pohl, Eliott Church and Jake Decker. Eliott Church with three singles won 6-0 6-0.
