Kelton has had a good school year while transition- ing to middle school. He has matured and tak- en a better approach to school and relation- ships. Great job, Kelton. Mrs. Williams chose Chase Heldt as the 3-5 Twig of the Week. Chase is always excelling in class and looking for ways to learn more. No mater what assignment I give him, he always ex- cels at it. His quick wit and humor can bright- en anyone's day. I can't wait to see what your fu- ture holds, Chase! Miss Stapleton chose Henry Carter and Aryan Singh for the K-2 Twigs of the Week. Aryan and Henry have both been a great asset to our class- room this year! They are both hardworking, always listening, trying their best, and helping others throughout the school day. Both of them have al- so made A ton of progress from the beginning of the school year. It's been such a joy to have them this year and it's been a lot of fun to watch them grow! They will do great things next year! ST. JAMES FOURTH GRADE NEWS Hello from the fourth grade class at St James School. Here we are again. It is getting close to the end of school. It is good and bad at the same time. We are so ready for school to be out but we don't want to leave the fourth grade. We will miss Sister. We are working on some skills we didn't learn well enough. In math we are tak- ing some of the chapter tests to see how much we remem- ber. We are surprising our- selves, because we do re- member a lot of it. We learned a lot this year and it didn't seem like it until now when as we go back over it all. We are going to give our last presentations in Social Studies class. We picked out some important people who were born in Indiana and are gathering information to present to our class. It is dif- ferent than most of our pre- sentations, because all of the other ones we read the in- formation in class first. This time we are the only one who knows anything about the person. It is going to be fun, because we get to ask questions to see if our class- mates remember what we say (Sister says that will help us know how teachers feel). We are practicing how to serve at Mass. Some of the eighth grade students are taking us to Church to teach us what to do. There is a lot to remember and we really need more practice, so Ashlyn Hopf (8th) and Garrett Zil- iak (5th) are going to help us again next week. It is so excit- ing to learn how to serve. We can hardly wait to do it. We had Prayer Partner Day last week, and that was so much fun. We helped with the decorations by making 180 flowers to put on the ta- bles as center pieces. Sister said the classroom looked like a flower shop. We must admit the flowers really were pretty. It was really good to be able to spend time with our Prayer Partners, because we haven't been with them for two years (thanks to the Covid). During the month of May, we are crowning a statue of the Blessed Mother Mary in our classroom. Each morn- ing we have a short proces- sion and then take turns crowning Mary our Queen and Mother. Sister has a list so that we know when we get to crown Mary and when we get to carry the crown. It is really neat and are so glad that we get to do it. We say three Hail Mary's and sing a song, then it is over and we get back to work, but it means a lot to us. It is about time for us to say goodbye so thanks for listen- ing to our rantings this year and we will see you again next year. Please be careful and stay healthy; also have a wonder- ful summer. Take care and God bless you all. FIFTH GRADE NEWS As we finish up the last few weeks of school, the 5th grade at Saint James school looks forward to having some fun-filled days. Having com- pleted our ILEARN exam, we look forward to enjoying some fun activities that we've been waiting to do. In science class, we will be doing an investigation on owl pellets. We will learn what owl pellets are and what in- formation they can give us. We will inspect the bones found in each owl pellet to de- termine the type of prey that was eaten by the owl. In the past few weeks, we took some time to create some kites with our string, straws, and tissue paper. Our kites are made of four pyra- mid structures that are cov- ered with tissue paper, and then tied together to make one larger pyramid. Hope- fully one windy day soon, we will be able to go outside and test them out. On Friday, May 20, we will participate in our annu- al Field Day. This is always a fun day filled with different activities for students to com- pete in. There are also always several chances for us to get wet. That is the best part of the day. Our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24. It is hard to imagine that our school year is about to come to an end. It sure did go fast. We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and relaxing sum- mer break. The fifth-grade students at St. James School pose with Officer Jennifer Loesch at the completion of their D.A.R.E. program. Some of the fifth-grade students at St. James School participated in the Spring Musical, Pirates!, on Thursday, April 28. Here we have some of the students bringing the cloth out of Church during the Holy Thursday Service. The cloth represented the Body of Jesus. Here is half of the fourth grade class singing during the crowning of Mary. Layla Kassenbrock is crowning Mary and Jesse Benkert is holding the pillow the crown was on.
