Send the details to editor@sgstartimes.com THIS WEEK Reception for Humbaugh Dr. Stacey Humbaugh is retiring and the school plans a reception at 3:30 p.m. May 19, at Gibson Southern High School. The public is invited! Fugitives and Heroes premieres at museum Broadway Players and Lyles Station Museum will bring local history this May with "Fugitives and Heroes," a his- torical experience inviting locals to travel back in time on the Underground Railroad to meet Gibson County and na- tional figures, thanks to sponsorship from Gibson County Community Foundation and the Betty McCullough grant. Staged across the museum and grounds, ticket hold- ers will meet national figures like Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman, as well as, everyday people like the Gri- er, Stormont, and Archer families. Audiences will meet Reube, a free man kidnapped in- to slavery as he left Princeton; and Charles Grier, a free black farmer who provided a haven in Gibson County for even the most-pursued enslaved people as they made their way north, as well as, many other local stories. The show will be 7 p.m. May 20 at a cost of $15, as well as, a dinner show at 6 p.m. May 21, at a cost of $ 35. Tick- ets are on sale. GCAS plans clinic Gibson County Animal Services, in conjunction with Princeton Veterinary Hospital, will host a Spring Wellness Clinic from 1-3 p.m. May 21 at the Princeton Veterinary Hospital. For $20 per animal, a pet owner can have a well- ness check, and yearly rabies and vaccine shots. To reserve a space, call 812-386 -8079 to register for this event. The event is cash only. Items can be purchased separately including heart- guard, flea protection, and more. JUNE EVENTS VFW 50th Anniversary Celebration VFW Post 2714, of Fort Branch, will be hosting their 50th Anniversary Celebration June 11, from 3 to 11 p.m. Activities will include: silent and live auctions, bird bingo, music by Rodney Watts and great food. Merit board meets The 2022 meetings of the Gibson County Sheriff's Mer- it Board will be at 12:30 p.m., the second Tuesday of every month, in the Gibson County Community Corrections Con- ference Room, located at 112 E. Emerson Street, Princeton. Trustees meet The Board of Trustees for the Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library will meet at 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month as the dates for their regular monthly board meetings. The meetings are held in the Li- brary Meeting Room. VFW post meeting day change Beginning in May, VFW Post 2714 Meetings will be the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Mount Carmel Roots'N'Que is June 18 Wabash Roots'N'Que Chairman Dennis Stroughmatt has announced that, through a partnership with First Na- tional Bank, Mel Tillis Jr. will headline the RNQ22 festi- val scheduled for Saturday, June 18, at Merchants Park, in Mt. Carmel, Ill. In addition to on stage performances, there will be a full schedule of events indoors, hosted by the Wabash Coun- ty Museum, just a few feet south of Merchants Park. Sev- eral Food Trucks and Craft Vendors will be on the street throughout the day. Also on tap, RNQ's Backyard BBQ Competition, "Smoke On The Wabash," providing the aro- mas for those attending, along with a chance for cash priz- es and trophies for the competitors. DOWN THE ROAD Donnie Baker fundraiser planned A fundraiser to benefit Gibson County CASA will fea- ture comedian Donnie Baker, Aug. 27, at the Toyota Events Center, in Princeton. Doors open at 5 p.m., with a meet and greet for those who buy special tickets; and the show starts at 6:30 p.m., for general admission. Fort Branch plans Halloween bash Fort Branch will host a two-day Halloween extravagan- za that will kick off with a Zombie run Oct. 28; Sinister Cellar's Haunted Park attraction Oct. 28 -29; and the up- town Halloween Fest Oct. 28. For more information check out their Facebook page. Bulletin Obituaries KERRY L. OVERTON Kerry L. Overton, 50, of Owensville, went to be with the Lord May 13, 2022. He was born in Newport News, Va. to David Lee and C. Marie Overton. He attended and gradu- ated from Gibson Southern High School in 1989, then fur- thered his education at Pur- due University earning his BS in 1993, and finally earn- ing his Masters at University of Dayton in 2003. He married his best friend, Anne, July 3, 2001 and was blessed with two children. He was an Area Business Manager for Bayer Crop Sci- ence for 6 years with 29 years experience in the Ag industry. Mitchell died on Monday, May 9, 2022 at home. He was 77 years old. He was born Nov. 18, 1944 in Princeton to Clyde T. and Gladys Mae (Spear) Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde; daugh- ter, Denise Beasley; mater- nal grandparents, Rex S. and Zoie G. (Poole) Spear: and his paternal grandmother, Golda Mitchell. C.L. graduated with honors from Princeton High School Class of 1962. He attended Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute and Evansville College in Evansville. C.L. served Regular Army and Indiana Army National Guard. He retired in 2004. In 1972, he passed the first examination given by the Na- tional Registry of EMTs. On Jan. 25, 1974, C.L. mar- ried Helen C. Christmas and she survives, along with two grandsons, J four great grandchildren; his sister, Bo- nita Johnson (Steve); and his mother, Gladys. C.L. was a member of Beth- el Memorial Church, a Life member of the National Ri- fle Association, Indiana Vol- unteer Firefighters Associa- tion, 38th Infantry Division Association, Quarter Centu- ry Wireless Association and the American Radio Relay League. He was also a mem- ber of the American Legion Post 41 at Owensville and was a member of the Honor Guard/Burial Detail until he was physically unable to per- form those functions. C.L. was certified and lat- er licensed as a Paramedic in 1979. He was appointed Para- medic Emeritus by the Indi- ana Emergency Medical Ser- vices Commission in 2020. He was also licensed as an Ama- teur Radio Operator. He was certified as a Med- ico-legal Death Investigator and served as a Deputy Cor- oner under Robert Kendall, Richard Hickrod and Misty Hoke until his health deteri- orated. Funeral services were held at 10 :30 am on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Colvin Funer- al Home in Princeton with Pastor Kevin Wilson officiat- ing. Burial was at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch. Vis- itation was Friday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside ser- vice by Retired Military Vet- erans. Kerry gave his final gift in life with the gift of organ do- nation. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Anne; children, Isabelle and Simon Overton; mother, C. Marie Overton; and siblings, Gayle (Mark) Lundt- vedt, Dawn (Henry) Archer, Kim (Dave) Singleton, Kev- in (Pom) Hallett, and David (Missy) Hallett. He was preceded in death by his father, David Overton; uncle, Gordon Overton; and aunt, Wanda Plummer. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Friday May 20, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 800 W. Faith Blvd, in Princeton. Burial will follow at Saulmon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Church.
