Gibson Southern pre- vailed solidly in the 4x800 meter relay, besting the Forest Park Lady Rangers by nearly six seconds. The Lady Titan 4x400 relay team also claimed the title with a six-second win over Forest Park. They won only three of the 16 events, but they had 15 different boys earn points in the meet to pro- pel them to 124 points for the win. "It was a complete team ef- fort in winning the PAC cham- pionship. The PAC is a tough conference," said Gibson Southern Track Coach Jere- my Aydt, about the Titan win. The Titans needed every point as they won 124 to 112 over second place Forest Park. Sloan Cox set a new school record and PAC record in the shot put. He broke his old school record by more than two feet with a throw of 61'1". It is the fourth time this season he has broken the re- cord. Teammate Hank Kissel was third with a throw of 47'5", which was a personal best for Kissel. In the discus, Cox and Kis- sel were second and third af- ter Tecumseh's Gavin Connel- ly uncorked a 159' throw. Cox threw 151'5" and Kissel 147'6". The 4x800 relay team of Lucas Kissel, Cooper Maur- er, Wyatt McElhiney and Al- ex Spindler all ran personal bests on their legs to turn in a 8:17.02, which was 9.7 sec- onds faster than second place Heritage Hills. In the 1600 run he ran a personal best of 4:33.14, to place second be- hind Forest Park's Spencer Wolf who ran a 4:29.57. In the 3200 he peeled al- most 20 seconds off his pre- vious best, to run a 10 :07.51 for third place. Wolf zoomed past the 10 minute mark for a 9:47.76 to win. Alex Spindler placed eighth for the Titans, with a time of 10 :43.99. Sophomore Michael Herron actually had the fastest time of the day in the 100. Not only did the Titans come from behind, they did it in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases load- ed, two outs and a freshman at the plate. The hosts trailed 8 -5 head- ing into the bottom of the sev- enth frame. The first hitter to take his place in the batter's box was senior Colton Okes, and he singled up the middle to put a runner on first for Gibson Southern and no outs. Oliver Hamilton was the next hitter for the Titans, and though he made good con- tact, he hit the ball to left field, where the Husky left fielder caught the ball and kept Okes at first base. That brought senior Logan Maurer to the plate, and Maur- er hit a ground ball single to the left side of the infield to put runners on first and sec- ond with one out. Drew Foster then worked the Husky pitcher for a free pass to load the bases, with still, just one out. The Husky hurler got the next Titan on strikes, and that brought freshman Seth Parsons to the plate with two outs, bases loaded, and Gib- son Southern trailing 8 -5. Just where a freshman wants to be. Right? This one did… Parsons tagged a single to right field to score both Okes and Maurer to get the Titans back within one at 8 -7, with Brayden Malone, back in the GSHS line-up for the first time after missing eight games with an ankle injury, coming to the plate. Still two outs. Hitter up af- ter missing eight games. Forest Park won number one singles, as Brooke Haug beat Titan Gracia Jones 6 -3, 6 -3.
