It was played at a high intensity befitting a win-or-go- home game. Pike Central just kept hav- ing different players step up and make plays when they needed them most. "Quade was under the weather the day before and we had some lineup chang- es. We overcame that and found a way to win and ad- vance," said El- liott He added, "I didn't think we executed offen- sively the way we should, or shot the ball very well, but I thought the intensity was really good, especially late in the game. The guys stepped up and made plays. Quade and Gish getting into the pass- ing lanes and making plays was huge for us," said Charger Coach Hunter Elliott. It was a back and fourth game. Pike Central's largest lead was the fi- nal score. Princeton's largest lead was 16 -10 in the second quarter. Princeton's Reggie McIntyre hit a three with 4:22 to play in the first to give Princeton a 5 -3 lead, but Kendric Sorgius answered immediately when he picked up a loose ball and scored on a drive and was fouled. He made the free throw to put the Chargers up 6 -5 with 3:40 left. Sorgius led the Chargers with 10 points and 16 rebounds on the night. Princeton's Kaiden Coomer was fouled on a rebound basket in the last minute of the first quarter. He missed the free throw. Princeton got the ball after a Pike Central turnover and held it for a last second shot. They missed and the quarter ended with Princeton leading 7-6. Princeton jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the first three minutes of the second quarter, but Sorgius dropped a three pointer from the left corner to make it 11-10. Jace Jenkins a freshman hit a three for Princeton, followed by a give-and-go bas- ket by Coomer, and Princeton was up 16 - 10 with two minutes to play in the half. Pike Central clawed their way back on a nice drive by Quade Morton, who fin- ished with seven points and a steal. A breakaway layup by Gish and then two free-throws by Peyton Howald tied the game at 16 with 35.6 left. Princeton's Jenkins was fouled with 0.7 seconds left and hit one of two free- throws to make it 17-16 at the half. Pike Central started the second half strong with a Peyton Howald layup. How- ald was on the bench much of the second quarter with foul trouble. Braden How- ald then made it 21-17 when Gish hit him on a baseline cut for a bucket. Peyton picked up his third foul with 4:16 left in the quarter on a Jenkins' 17 footer. Jenkins' free-throw made it 23-23 as Princeton pulled out to a 27-23 lead, but Chase Ridao in for Howald nailed a three-pointer to pull within one, but Jen- BIG PLAYS LEAD CHARGERS TO SECTIONAL OPENER VICTORY Pike Central senior Alex Clark goes up in traffic for a shot as Pike Central beat Princeton 43-37.
