Pike Central Musical 'Into the Woods' opens this Friday By Sherri Sebella If you do not have any plans this weekend, Pike Central High School is holding their Spring Musical, "Into the Woods," based on the To- ny Award-winning book and score. "James Lapine and Ste- phen Sondheim take every- one's favorite storybook char- acters and bring them togeth- er for a timeless, yet relevant, piece, and a rare, modern clas- sic," Melissa Traylor, Director of the play and choir teacher. Performances for this year's musical will be Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at 7 p.m. and Sun- day, March 13, at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. "The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk," Traylor said. "When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a jour- ney to break the curse. Every- one's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results." Auditions for the musical took place in December of 2021, and rehearsals began in January. Students have been practicing 10 hours a week according to Traylor. "This has been a really tough show to learn and I am very proud of the cast and crew for their hard work and dedication to make this show come to life," Traylor said. "This year, the cast are an extremely talent- ed group of students, which made this tough show possi- ble. You won't want to miss it."
