Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRIS- TIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Worship with us Sunday morning at 10 :30 a.m. This Sunday, March 13, we're planning a special day at First Christian Church. We're taking advantage of the time change, to "Spring Forward" in- to action. God has much work to be done in Pike County, and specifically, Petersburg, and we're excited about the future. Worship time begins at 10 :30 a.m. We want to invite anyone and everyone who might be in- terested in sharing our vision for our community to worship with us and then, following wor- ship, share in a great time of fel- lowship with a barbeque lunch from the 423 Smokehouse right here in Petersburg. Remember this: "For God so loved the world (Pike County, Indiana) that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life." We believe Jesus makes a difference. I'm Dennis Randall and I'm all about Jesus. Dennis Randall, Minister 941-730 -6324 VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 OTWELL Sunday morning worship and the Lord's Supper at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday school at 10 :30 a.m.; Sunday evening wor- ship at 6:30 p.m. Lesson top- ic: Put your faith into action. This Sunday is our Spring time change. Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour. You are welcome to worship, fellowship and study with us. Kindness "Often too many people to- day are in too much of a hur- ry to take time to be kind. Yet, kindness does as much for the one who shows it as for those who receive it." This reminds me of Jesus' words, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20 :20, in that context Paul (a highly educated man), was not afraid to work with his hands, and thus supply his own needs. He points out that with hard work we can help those in need. Remember kindness is part of the fruit of the Spir- it. Galatians 5:22-23. Because He lives. "Look at the five things Paul lists here which should be a part of our character as Christians: compassion, kind- ness, humility, gentleness, pa- tience. Which is hardest for you? "They're all hard for me," you might be tempted to say, and you're probably right. Ev- ery one of them strikes a blow at our natural selfishness. No one exhibited them more com- pletely than our Lord, who was completely self giving. But for many of us, patience is the hardest. For one thing, our pa- tience is probably tested every day—even every hour. But pa- tience is also critical for with- out it the other four— compas- sion, kindness, humility, and gentleness, are impossible" by: Billy Graham. "Therefore, as God's cho- sen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humil- ity, gentleness, and patience" (Colossians 3:12). "The aged saint Simeon, standing in the temple, took the child Jesus in his arms and, looking into His face, lifted his eyes to Heaven and said; "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; for mine eyes have seen thy sal- vation." Long had he waited, long had he prayed, long had he desired to see Him. Now the Spirit of God reveals un- to him the fact that his heart's desire had been granted and that he was gazing upon the Divine Saviour of souls, and death had no more terrors for him. There is but one cure for the world's unrest. "The Sal- vation of God." Let us go out today and tell the story wher- ever we can. The poor, hun- gry-hearted, sin-sick souls are waiting. Hwy. 61 Spurgeon Pastor Cell 812-202- 8903 or church office 812-922-8215 Church service 9 a.m.; Fri- day Bible study at 1 p.m. "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here" (II Corinthians 5:17). We can stop beating our- selves up over our past and let go of the guilt, knowing we're completely forgiven because of Jesus' death on the cross. And we can start afresh, knowing we can rely on the Holy Spirit to daily transform us to be more like Jesus. That's why Paul reminds be- lievers "the old has gone, the new is here" (II Corinthians 5:17). We too can say this be- cause the simple but power- ful truth; God has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and no longer counts our sins against us (vs. 19). Others around us may not be willing to forget our past wrong-doing, but we can take heart that in God's eyes we're no longer condemned (Ro- mans 8:1). As Paul points out, "If God is for us, who can be against us? " (vs. 31). Let's en- joy the fresh start He's given us through Jesus. How can you remind your- self that you're fully forgiven because of Jesus' death on the cross? How can you encourage new believers to start life afresh? "Thank you, Jesus, for Your saving work on the cross that reconciles me to God and gives me a new life in You"— Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righteous- ness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be added?
