Chargers used the three to get back into the contest, netting 12 of their 38 second half markers with the three ball. That kept the Rebels hon- est, with four Chargers hit- ting from the arc, all of it in the fourth quarter. That 24 to nine fourth quarter run in- cluded steals for baskets by Quade Morton and Chase Rid- ao. Kendric Sorgius and Pey- ton Howald both fouled out of the game but Sorgius con- tributed 13 markers, includ- ing four of five from the line and one fourth quarter three ball. Howald was part of the 24-point fourth quarter deluge with his only basket of the con- test. The Chargers trailed by 27 starting the fourth, but Julian Gish swished one to start a 14-point run. Howald dashed down the court to net one 20 seconds later. Sorgi- us got one to go, and then se- nior, Alex Clark, got one from outside the arc. Sorgius got to the line for a pair, and Mor- ton completed a theft to make it a 53-37 contest. The Char- gers finished out the fourth with three pointers by Sorgi- us, Clark, Gish and Ridao. The 38 to 26 second half scoring could not make up for the 36 - 9 first half deficit. Morton finished with 13 points, hitting an early three pointer and spread five bas- kets over all four quarters. Ridao, Gish, Clark and Sorgi- us all nailed threes in the fi- nal frame. Cale Donoho was the Rebel leading scorer, with 18 points including two threes. The Reb- els hit 14 of 18 free throws in the first half and canned four threes for the 38 -9 first half start. Seven Chargers lit up the score board, as did eight South Spencer Rebels. Sorgi- us finished with five rebounds, Gish and Morton three each and Ridao with two plus two steals. Coach Hunter Elliott com- mented, "Coming in after two weeks off due to not being able to play, and only getting to practice once the first week back, made it tough to come out and compete against the top team in the conference. I thought the first quarter we came out early and had some opportunities that we didn't convert, that could have re- ally changed the game. They played an extended 2-3 zone and we didn't attack it well. They hadn't played that all year and there are only so ma- ny adjustments you can make in a timeout. My biggest issue with the first half is I didn't think we competed on the defensive side. We made some adjust- ments at halftime and at- tacked it much better the sec- ond half. We played them fair- ly even in the third, and then started the fourth quarter with a 14-0 run. We cut it to a 12 point game in the fourth, but had dug ourselves way to big of a hole. I thought it was great to see our kids make an adjustment at half and keep competing. We didn't roll over. We made a good run in the second half. Not the out- come we wanted, but we are learning and growing. Have to keep pounding the stone." The Charger junior var- sity fell to the Rebels 45 -25, winning just the last quarter with 10 points, courtesy of No- ah Meece, Jagar Dent, Zack Miller and Brenton Fryrear. Albert Whitehead, Chase Ridao, Brenton Fryrear and Jagar Dent were good for 11 points in the first half, while the Rebels ran for 26 points by halftime. Fryrear was the only Charger to score in the third quarter, while four Reb- els amassed 14 points for the 40 to 15 third stop South Spen- cer advantage. Fryrear fin- ished with a team high eight points, followed by Dent, with six and Whitehead with five. Meece had two and Ridao one.
