The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, Feburar y 2, 2022 D-3 Pentecostal Nazarene Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday Methodist PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the NALA Who out there has a lust for life? Can't wait each day to play chase? Labs I 3:9. This week PAWS fea- tures an approximately 11-monthsold snazzy white lab named Nala, who is all about fun and games and is very friendly and loving. She has one blue eye and one brown and blue eye, a condition known as heter- ochromia. It is very rare condition, but quite attrac- tive on this fun loving Lab. Nala hopes to become someone's special Valen- tine and can be reserved by calling 812-354-9894. Scripture that we see the dif- ference between "the king- dom of heaven" and "the Body of Christ," between "the gospel of the kingdom" and "the gospel of the grace of God," between the dispen- sation of law and "the dispen- sation of the grace of God." A comparison of Romans 3:21 and 26 shows how this time element is emphasized in Scripture. A fter discuss- ing the function of the Law in verses 19 and 20, the Apostle Paul declares: "But now the righteousness of God with- out the law is manifested…" Then, in verse 26 he states that it is God's purpose: "To declare, I say, at this time His [Christ's] righteousness; that He [God] might be just and the Justifier of him that believeth in Jesus." always had problems with the bone density tests show- ing her to have weak places in her bones. Yeah, we know she had a real weak moment when she married me HA- HA. Believe it or not we have been married for 54 years. I had a visit with my car- diologist Monday afternoon and apparently I am doing alright heart wise, except at least three of my heart valves I leak blood back into my heart. I don't know how many you have in there, but that is what the echo gram showed. The doctor didn't change my meds nor did I have to stop doing anything I was presently doing. He did warn me not to increase the weight of my morning work- outs. I can however do more repetitions of each exercise. It was another week of ap- pointments as I had to see my family doctor at the end of the week for a three month checkup. It showed nothing bad, but the levels of some of my tests should have been lower because of exercising. He told me what to watch out for and what not to eat of course. Sad, but about every- thing we like is usually bad for us. That is my bad be- cause I am sometimes weak and forget his words of wis- dom about leaving it alone. Our Grandson is having some trouble with being a lit- tle too active and has a hard time focusing on things he is supposed to be concentrat- ing on. I just wonder if per- haps we don't all have a prob- lem being distracted by so many distracters. I'm smart enough to know we can't re- move everything which dis- tracts us, but wouldn't it be great if we could turn them off when we needed to. For the snow lovers around you have been teased a cou- ple of times this winter. That is fine with me, but at the end of this week you may get some snow to play in. Our winter so far has been cold, but not so cold we couldn't be out in. It has actually been an easier winter than we all expected. We'll find out on "Groundhog Day" if we have an early Spring or will we have six more weeks of bad weather. You do believe in the groundhog, don't you? I didn't make it to the auc- tion Saturday because my wife had something going on and she used my help all day. It is usually a great event and it is aptly called "Cabin Fever Cruise-in". Hope it was a good one. Sunday school class was about prayer and the fact that we are a family which has God Almighty as our heavenly Father. Bro. Rich preached a good message about distracting things in our lives, which cause us to lose focus on God and His Son Jesus. Well, I don't want any of us to lose focus on be- ing a blessing to each and every person God places in your path this week. MINUTES RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 1 POINTS Continued from page 1 sic, fog machines, spot and strobe lights. What they of- fer as a message is often lit- tle more than a feel-good sto- ry and a verse of scripture added to the script. Worship is "all about me" and how it makes "me feel." If it's not lively, energetic, and loud, it is not church, I have been told; and I do not care what the Bible says: affirm as god- ly my iniquitous life. With all the changes in worship style, are the youth flocking to our services? Are churches pushing the walls out to make room for the stampede of new young Christians? The answer is no, and it always will be no. We have characterized the church as a lighthouse. In Revelation, Jesus called the church a lamp-stand. In his Sermon on the Mount, Je- sus called his disciples can- dles. He referred to them as a "city set on a hill." He told his disciples to let their light burn brightly so that every- one who sees it will see your good works and glorify God. Our task is to be the "salt of the earth." That sets the church and Christians apart from the world. The world must get their flavor from the church, not the other way around. One of the worse things to happen to the church was when pastors saw the minis- try as a profession, more so than a calling. When the min- istry moved into the profes- sional class, the power fad- ed. Clergy was more con- cerned with hearing "praises of men" than remembering that Jesus said, "Woe to you when all people speak well of you! " Pastors water down their sermons, less someone becomes offended and seeks their removal and they lose their livelihood. They ig- nore the words of the proph- et when he said, "Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pas- ture! ," declares the LORD". They have forgotten who they serve and who they an- swer to. Many pastors give the masses what they want, a sermon full of platitudes, but no power. The words, "Thus saith the Lord" are seldom, if ever, heard from their lips. The youth of today right- ly perceive the world as bro- ken. They did not break it. It was already broken. No amount of societal, cultural, or political change will fix it. Paul warned in the last days, men will not endure sound doctrine, but will turn to fa- bles and other empty sound bites and slogans to tickle ears. The younger crowd is not being reached, because they are smart enough to see that behind the music, the lights and fanfare are empti- ness. They arrive empty and leave empty. Some churches are nothing more that social or service clubs. They have lost their way because they have abandoned the power of God, because they have abandoned His transform- ing Word. Paul says it suc- cinctly to the Roman church, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." In the opening chapter of the Gos- pel of Mark, Jesus begins His ministry, saying, "repent and believe the gospel." When was the last time you heard your pastor say "repent" in a sermon? If you want the youth to come and stay, give them a message that begins with "Repent and believe in the gospel." It worked for Je- sus. It is something to think about. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righteous- ness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be added? God's order back into our lives— a peace that passes all under- standing—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Sunday morning service 10 :15 a.m. and Sunday school at 11 a.m. May the peace of God pass your understanding. Jesus, in the Word, stated for our joy to be full and to have peace. We have to focus on His Word and constantly look to the finished work of Jesus at the cross. His final words were, "It is finished." The complete work was done and we are to enjoy our Christian walk. It is possible to those that believe. Keep our Federal, State and Local governments in prayer, as it was a command from Je- sus. Also, pray for the nurs- ing homes, those in hospi- tals, your family and friends that are afflicted. May you find peace and blessings in your week and be filled with joy. Ashes On Ash Wednesday, as Lent begins, worshipers' foreheads are often marked with ashes in the sign of the cross. The ashes traditionally come from burning palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday. In Old Testament days, ashes were a sign of mourning and repentance. Today, some wor- shipers wipe off the ashes be- fore leaving church, to sym- bolize being cleansed from sin by Jesus' death; others wear the ashes the rest of the day, carrying the cross of Christ into the world. The speaking of Genesis 3:19 often accom- panies the placement of ash- es: "You are dust, and to dust you shall return." Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday.
