Poplar Street, Petersburg The Apostle Paul had much that he yearned to teach the Hebrew believers — wonderful truths that would have thrilled their hearts — but these truths were "hard to be uttered," or difficult to explain to them, since they were "dull of hearing." The word "dull" in Heb. 5:11 really means "slothful," or indifferent (as in Heb. 6:12). They were not merely hard of hear- ing, as we say, but were too lazy, too indiffer- ent, spiritually, to pay attention. They were not sufficiently interested. This is always a serious condition in the light of the fact that "God hath spoken," and that dis- obedience to His Word will be judged (Heb. 1:1,2; 2:1-3). Yet, alas, this is the condition of the professing Church today. The great major- ity of religious people are not sufficiently inter- ested in what God has said to engage in dili- gent, prayerful study and, like those of Paul's day, still have to be taught "the first principles" of the Bible. They have remained babes, spir- itually, unable to digest anything but "milk," and so remain "unskillful in the Word of righ- teousness" (Heb. 5:12-14). What has brought this condition about? Is it because our Bibles are being burned and the Church persecuted for reading it? Is it The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday Upcoming Events Bartons to perform at Gentle Shepherd Church of God this Sunday Derek and Sue Ellen Barton will be the guests for Praise and Worship service at Gentle Shepherd Church of God, located at 8350 East 350 North ( just west of Oatsville on the Oatsville/Wheeling Road), in Gibson County on Sun- day, January 23 at 6 p.m. (CST). The public is welcome to come and spend an evening of singing in praise of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Food and fellowship will follow the concert. What is the meaning of Papers, please? The dictionary defines "Papers, please" as an ex- pression or trope associated with police state functionaries demanding identification from citizens during random stops or at check- points. It is a cultural metaphor for life in a police state. America and the world are on the precipice of a police state, and I am neither joking, laughing, nor in hysterics. I am angry by what I see. There is a growing awareness among peo- ple all over the world that COVID is more than a pandemic. It is being used for nefarious pur- poses. Governments around the world are locking people down and up for refusing to get vaccinated. Businesses are falling in line requiring customers to show "proof" of vac- cination to get in. Employers are mandating their workers get vaccinated or lose their job. There are calls for a national digital vaccina- tion barcode or biochip that can read by a cell phone or other device to prove one's vaccina- tion. Of course, all of this is being done for the public good and national health. To that I say, "welcome anti-Christ! " The world is being transformed, and not for the better, before our eyes, and most people cannot see the bigger picture. Historians cred- it Winston Churchill with saying "Never let a good crisis go to waste." Churchill was the master manipulator of a crisis. COVID is be- ing used as cover to circumvent our Constitu- tional Freedoms and transform America into a police state. For two-hundred years Ameri- cans have had liberty of travelling unhindered wherever they want. That freedom is no more. Australia is involuntarily forcing people into quarantine centers who have been exposed to COVID, whether or not symptomatic. The choice to self-quarantine is being taken away in the name of national health. Other countries We are gathered here to hear the news of a scrambled mind. That's not really true, but lot's of information is stored in my old brain cage. I've had people say I should write a book about my life. I'm sure if I started recording all the stupid things I have done in my life it would probably not be a best seller but it would keep your interest. I used to think my dad just told stories to amuse others until I started to realize my life was becoming similar to his in things which seemed to happen to us. I've been told I stretch some of my stories. Maybe I do, but stretched or not they actually happened. I was not some- one who did mean things yet I was always ac- cused of being around where the most mis- chief was taking place. If you get a reputation it stays with you for a long time. I have been blessed with sever- al elder gentlemen who helped me through the years and I feel certain through their help I have become the person I am today. Some- times I stop and look back to see where I could have been if not for a new found hope and faith in our Lord Jesus. I consider that if I got what I deserved I re- alize how blessed I am to be alive. I really Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E.
